How about a mini-review for all of you patiently waiting for yours to arrive.
I finally got time this weekend to sit down and watch the whole movie in one sitting. It was more than that as this was the first time I've actually seen the movie. I've caught bits and pieces of it on TV before but never saw the whole thing.
Video:
For an animation movie this old, and compared to the versions on TV I saw the DVD has a clean picture to it.
I watched it on a 32 inch widescreen TV, via S-Video cable from a DVD player with a 108 mHz/12-bit video DAC. I didn't come across too many artifacts or dirt and overall was quite impressed.
I then checked it out at work on a BARCO projector and pretty high end equipment and on a 100 inch screen via component video, it was beautiful. Didn't have the 3-D feel that some newer animation would have but was leaps and bounds better than some run-of-th-mill TV animation.
Audio:
There is only a 2.0 track on the disc and since I'm a 5.1+ fan I was a little dissapointed with the track but for what it had it worked well. There was a nice soundstage and separation from the front left and right system. I'm hooked up for 7.1 and there were times that I caught myself thinking what could have been with a discrete 5.1 DD or DTS track. Those flying scenes and the bug sequences would have truly rocked the house but it wasn't and I got past it to enjoy the track that was there.
The subtitles seemed to be well done and accurate so should be no problem.
Overall:
Aside from my nose being too high in the air about surround sound mixes, I found this overshadowed by a great story and imaginative animation. I've been a fan of Miyazaki in that I get them when they come out on DVD and haven't been dissapointed with a story yet. And this one was great also.
When you all get it, sit back and enjoy.

My copy came in the mail on Friday and I have to say I am a tad disapponted in the lack of extras. The storyboard version of the film is top notch, but I am surprised that there isn't more in terms of merchandise, history of the manga. I wish I knew Japanese to enjoy (and understand) the commentary.

it come in a box that has handle that let u carried it. something like when u buy a dvd player, it is house in a box with handle. when u open this, inside there is another box. it is blue in colour and the cover has "Nausicaa" written on the cover. when u open this blue lid, u will first see the painting of the character. it is nicely frame up. then the next layer is the dvd packed inside the soft dvd covering. also got the worm figurine that u will see in the movie. lastly, it has the character figurine.

Received mine today....with the softcase, which as i'd left it so long to order wasn't really expecting to get so a nice bonus.
Haven't had chance to check it out yet but very briefly skimmed through the second disc...the preview of the new Mamoru Oshii feature 'Innocence' to be released in 2004 certainly had a great deal of 'eye-candy' about it.

Can anyone suggest a place to order the HK version? The places I normally look only have the Warriors Of the Wind version...

Second Truffaut Fan's recommendation of Layoyo (formerly DVDSHELF). They've got good prices and are very reliable. In fact I just ordered Nausicaa a few day's ago from them!
Also yesasia.com has it. They've been really good and they're prices are pretty good (but make sure to take advantage of the free shipping).
