The Deer Hunter 2 Disc Special edition - 8/4/03!

Region 2 gets a brand new version of the deer hunter - the film is owned by warners and studio canal in Europe so hopefull this will be up to the standards - and packaging of WB's other special editions.

go here for cover art and details

http://www.playserver5.com/play247.a...2&title=121653

the features look really good and much better than the current bare bones release - hopfully the film has been remastered

All features to be confirmed...
Audio commentary from director Michal Cimino
'Realising The Deer Hunter': an interview with director Michael Cimino
'Shooting The Deer Hunter': an interview with cinematographer Vilmos Zsigmond
'Playing The Deer Hunter': an interview with actor John Savage
Theatrical trailer
DVD-Rom features: download the original press brochure
Interactive menu
Scene access

will be picking this one up for sure.

Moving to International...

... to merge with Pro-Bassoonist's thread there on this already.

Besides, Universal owns the film here, not Warner. Just because an SE appears overseas is NO indictation that it will appear here.

Posting a non-Region 1 DVD release here - not the way to go.

Seriously, this made a lot of people angry...

I just thought being a big release I thought all you people in region 1 land should be aware of a new release alot of you will be interested in - if STAR WARS came out on region 2 would you not like to be made aware..anyways I apologise for many dashed hopes it was not supossed to annoying or malicious.

It's not a problem, I just wish an Admin would change the title to say Region 2 or something.

it is only 4%...not 4 times (is that what you meant with 4x)...some make a big issue out of it some like me do not mind it at all.

For the record I am a professional musician and unless you have seen the film 100 times and know the pitch frequency down to the smallest detail you wont notice anything. I dont want to get into any discussions as to how "degrading" PAL is but will tell you this.....for foreign movies for example, PAL is a non-issue at all (if it ever was) as the voice intonation, "obertones", and pitch frequency is not the same that you're used to when hearing/speaking your native language (English).

as to "correcting" it...only way is if the studio actually does it...I am not aware if there is an alternative method that will reset the speed on your region free player. In the future....perhaps....again for an old movie like this one should be a non-issue.
Example: the EXCELLENT Dutch (DTS) version of Papillon:

looks, sounds, FEELS great...!!! This should answer your question!

Hope this makes sense.

So, Gut.....I know you're "old school" like me and enjoy a lot of stuff I like as well.....my advise to you...wait until the Brits confirm that this will be a new transfer with subs.....so far all we know 100% for sure is that it will have a 5.1 mix plus the rest of the specs but no confirmation as to whether or not this is a new transfer (with subs).

thanks pro. your advice is sound. I'm just now starting to obtain some pal dvds...and noticed something while watching the new Blood and Black Lace. I could see/feel the "judder' in some but not all scenes. I did notice it when a guy was tying his tie and everytime a key was being turned in a door. it just didnt look right. sounds weird...but it was obvious to me. it didnt really bother me that much though. yeah...I meant 4%...sorry. and thanks for the tip on Papillon, one of my favs.
