link

Universal will be re-releasing Danny Boyle's groundbreaking masterpiece Trainspotting on June 16th in a two disc definitive set.

The first disc will house the fully restored, uncut version of the movie which will be presented with an anamorphic transfer and both DD5.1 & DTS (full rate 1509Kbps) audio tracks. Also on the first disc is the audio commentary that featured on Criterion's Laser Disc, a selection of nine anamorphically enhanced deleted scenes (wth optional commentary) and a 9m Making Of Trainspotting featurette.

The second disc will contain a Behind The Needle documentary, five Cannes Film Festival featurettes, trailers, biographies, galleries and new & old interviews with Director Danny Boyle, Producer Andrew MacDonald, Screenwirter John Hodge & Author Irvine Welsh.

Sweet merciful crap.

Now the big question - could Miramax be waiting to port this over to a US release...

Thanks for the heads up! Preordered from Amazon. I love how they properly drop VAT from their non-European customers. Got it for about $25 shipped.

All but that commentary. Criterion has never licensed any of their extras for R1.

wrong. see MONTY PYTHON AND THE HOLY GRAIL and Anchor Bay's upcoming version of HALLOWEEN for two exceptions. Plus Buena Vista and Criterion have a close relationship.

Not a guarantee, but not outside the realm of possibility.

Are those commentaries owned by their respective production companies and not Criterion? Like the AB Evil Dead comms.

Then those commentaries are probably owned by their respective production companies and not Criterion. Same for the AB Evil Dead comms.
Wrong again -- the Holy Grail commentary was fully owned by Criterion and licensed to Columbia/TriStar through an agreement. Criterion can license out its materials, although they are quite selective on whom and how.
