Thats a nice looking set. And it includes Burden of Dreams!!! Its too bad Anchor Bay didn't licence that film because it would have made a great 2 disc set along with Fitzcarraldo.
I wonder how the Korean discs look compared to the AB ones?

gabegarwick 05-03-03 10:30 AM

cool! I've had these movies in my wish list for almost a year now, but kept putting them off...
These might be the ones to get. :)

I'm not sure why anyone would opt for this set over the Anchor Bay box set. The AB box set contains NOSFERATU, FITZCARRALDO, MY BEST FIEND, AGUIRRE WRATH OF GOD, COBRA VERDE and WOYZECK (transfers all supervised by Herzog) and can still be found in the $50 to $70 range. All but WOYZECK and MY BEST FIEND contain second audio commentaries and additional extras, all of which will surely be missing on the Korean discs. NOSFERATU even has a behind-the-scenes documentary as well. Apart from the inclusion of Les Blank's documentary, so far there doesn't seem to be any reason to go for the Korean set. Les Blank has just started issuing his films on DVD in the U.S. and surely BURDEN OF DREAMS will be on the way.

Looks nice, but for those with a finite money supply, I'm sure the AB set is preferable.

I am sticking with "our" set!!

This one also looks decent....so the more choices the better!!

ola_t 05-05-03 08:17 AM

It sure looks tempting (I really want to see Burden of Dreams!), but does anyone have an English translation of the specs? German and/or English language tracks? English subtitles? Which version of Nosferatu? Same commentary tracks as on Anchor Bay? Anamorphic?

I'd be most grateful for any info.

Something tells me there was tension on the set. :) (I wonder what Kinski ate?)

Sartana 05-05-03 05:54 PM

So how much does it cost? Here's another picture that shows a different colored package:

By the way, WERNER HERZOG EATS HIS SHOE is another Les BLank documentary shot during the premiere of Errol Morris' GATES OF HEAVEN. This looks like a nice package, but I'd hate to pay too much for it and then have Blank release BURDEN OF DREAMS/HERZOG EATS HIS SHOE domestically. I doubt the transfers on the other films will be any different from the Anchor Bay discs, and the only additional extra looks like a Korean critic's commentary on FITZCARRALDO.

I'm curious about the price of this too.
I have already purchased a couple of the AB Herzog discs, so I had no intention of buying the AB box set anyway. But I don't have any of these 4 discs, so this set is a possible purchase for me (depending on price).

Sartana 05-05-03 07:50 PM

OK, it looks like its list price is around 77,000 Korean Won, which works out to around $63 US. Not bad, but not great considering that you can still get the US set for around that price and it contains COBRA VERDE, AGUIRRE and WOYZECK in place of BURDEN OF DREAMS. Unless somebody comes forward to say that the Korean transfers are better than the Anchor Bay transfers, it looks like it all boils down to how badly you want BURDEN OF DREAMS and WERNER HERZOG EATS HIS SHOE.

A big thanks to Big Guy for the translation of the specs! Much appreciated.

Big Guy 05-06-03 10:58 AM

No probs guys.Glad I could help.....

Oh and one more thing...

The Korean set is limited to only 1000 copies..it retails for 75,000 won here....(like was noted, around the 60-65 dollar mark)
