The Stepfather R4 question

It looks like there are 2 versions of THe Stepfather ava in R4, one by "The AV Channel" which runs about USD$15 on planet dvd and the other is available at hmv for about USD$7.50 from the lable "Umbrella".

Anyone know about the differences between the 2 discs, if any???

Thanks,
Dave

There is only one version - The AV Channel distribute Umbrella's releases to stores

Ah, well thank you for that clarification. Confused by differing artwork on a couple of sites. Also confused by the wildly different pricing (about USD$8 at hmv (sale?) and USD$16 at Planet dvd).

Any comments out there on the quality? I'm stuck with an old Vestron video LD (with analog sound iirc) from the late 80s. The DVD has to be better . . .

Thanks!

I don't actually own the disc but here is a comprehensive review I came across:

I did notice that HMV had quite a few AV Channel discs on sale recently in store so that would explain the lower price.

The full retail price is A$29.95 (about US$18.00)

I have both the LD and the R4 DVD (which is from Umbrella). The DVD is a marginal improvement over the LD (which was pretty damn bad) in picture and sound quality. If you're a huge fan of the movie as I am, you might want to pick it up. I just wish whoever has the R1 rights will finally do a decent disc of this. I have to say Miramax did a pretty damn good job with Stepfather 2, so here's to hoping.

Not much to say except "I agree". I too have both the LD and the R4 DVD. The DVD is definitely better, although not radically so.

Basically, this is the best it has looked so far, but there is tons of room for improvement. I'm still hoping for Anchor Bay to scoop this puppy up and do a bang-up job in Region 1. (remastered, widescreen, commentary, etc.)
