The Korean CREAM release is the BEST!!! Good luck finding a copy... :)
No DTS, but at least it doesn't have those ****ed up bold subs that the new 2-disc has. + Somebody said the picture was a tad better on the Cream Release, even though it uses the same print as the 2-disc. OH, + there's the sweet ass semi-hologram cover. SWEET. |
Originally posted by axolotls return I have/had a half dozen Tartan PAL DVDs and they all were encoded incorrectly, very dark, burned subs (earlier ones) and grainy. For example: Ring... even Dead or Alive is not so hot. Now, the Tartan NTSC Battle Royale is spectacular -only- because they got a direct port from the Japanese discs. That's why """People""" praise this disc and not their other ones. |
Originally posted by matome Definitely the 2-disc Korean for the anamorphic transfer, DTS track, Director's cut and no region-coding. No subtitles on the extras disc :(, but you can watch along for a while. The Universe HK DVD works fine for me for the theatrical version. I got it for about $6. |
Originally posted by Trigger Well see... that's what i'm saying - I have Ring, Ring 2 and Ring 0 and Dead Or Alive 1 and 2 and they all look the same as Battle Royale to me quality-wise. But whatever. Maybe it's just that I don't care as much as everyone else does. |
The 2 DVD LE PAL Tin picture quality is not very good.
The Korean set is the one to get. I sold the LE Tin after seeing the Korean one and bought it right away! |
Originally posted by Sartana I can confirm that Tartan's RING and RING 0 look miserable in comparison to their NTSC BATTLE ROYALE. There's quite a big difference in quality actually. What are you watching these discs on? |
I finallllllllly watched this movie last week. All I can say is =O
It was such a good movie. I watched it again with a friend a couple days later. I really liked the music though. Some nice songs in there. |

You can get the Region 3 DTS transfer for 30 HKD from dddhouse. Thats approx 4 7.50 incl shipping.

I just bought http://shop.hkdvdstore.com/product_i...roducts_id=647 version of the film.
It seems to be missing subtitles (as in a conversation between 2 people will only have subs for one). Are the other versions like this? I'm thinking its probably a bootleg, but can anyone verify it? To add a big probably to the bootleg-ness, the cover has the DTS logo, but there is no DTS track. thanks (and if it is a boot, can someone point me to a reliable store?) |

You can get the official HK version cheap here: http://dddhouse.com/cms/dddhouse/en/...productID=1527 (those are HK dollars) or you can get the superior Tartan UK NTSC disc here: http://www.amazon.co.uk/exec/obidos/...095016-5311001 or at other UK e-tailers like Blackstar.co.uk. For some reason Bensonsworld no longer carries this version. The two-disc extended cut versions are of course pricier (and I prefer the original cut anyway myself), but the Korean disc is the favored version for this revamped cut of the film. |
Monkey: You bought a bootleg.
Sartana: That store says it's REGION FREE. The Universe Disc is Region 3. Wouldn't trust that store with anything.... Hope the mods edit the link. |
so if I bought a non-bootleg version, do all the subtitles show up?
It would help to know what's being said -smile- |
From memory, the subtitles aren't great on the HK disc, but I don't recall extended scenes of missing subs. I own the Tartan NTSC R0 disc now and the subtitles are much better.

I was wondering what everyone considers the superior version. The Extended cuts that these so-called "Director Cuts" sport, or the regular Theatrical version?
|
I like the theatrical cut better. I've watched that 2:1 over the director's (extended) cut.
|
Anyone else have an opinion? Any supporters of the Extended Cut?
|
I've said it before, but the original cut is far superior. The additions to the extended version are pretty pointless.
|
Here is one more question. A keep seeing a #ed to 3,000 Korean addition on ebay. Is this a boot or not, please help.
|
i think the numbered 2-disc edition is by Starmax in Korea, but i'm not sure if it's limited anymore. this was the one that came in a double-amaray case inside of a outer light-brown cardboard slipcase. i recently bought this, and was pissed when it did NOT include the map. i'm very sure i bought a legit copy. can anyone verify if this was recently re-issued as non-limited?
|
darmok:
If it was shrinkwrapped, there should be a round sticker on it which is all in Korean (duh) and has "3,000" printed on it. All of those had the maps. The Starmax re-release doesn't have the map included and I can verify that it has been re-released. The map is nothing to worry over. Someone can scan it for you, I am sure. |
I'll chime in and say that I actually like the DC better....
I thought the additions were pretty cool actually. |
That sucks. I looked at some of the auctions ones and they CLEARLY don't have the map. The map is what made it limited to 3,000. These sellers are just assuming these re-releases are the limited ones (I hope). Although they were the same ones selling the ones with the map earlier this year (Yes, I remember since I sold a couple when the came out).
Again, the only way to make sure you're getting the limited edition of 3,000 is -if- it comes with a red/white sticker (can't remember if it was squarish or circular, I can check as there are five of them at a store down the way) _AND_ it comes with the map. The rest are reissues or worse. |
