I didn't think much of Kakashi. For "creepiness" I liked:

Uzumaki
Inugami
St Johns Wort, interesting visuals but the ending sucks.
Memento Mori
The Isle, slow but beautifully shot with some hard to watch stuff.
Dark Water
The Eye
Phone
Kairo (and Cure from the same director but not a horror film.)

Then you have your horror/gore/zombie stuff like:

Junk
Wild Zero
Versus
Evil Dead Trap

Junk and Evil Dead Trap are both terrible IMO. I'd avoid them if I were you. Especially Junk...

JUNK is a great, zombie film, nothing groundbreaking but alot of goofy fun in the Return of the Living Dead vein.

Check out Memories from South Korea. It's part of the Three series.

Audition isn't strictly horror, but it's close and a masterful piece of suspense cinema all the same.

Ring 0 is terrible
Rasen/Spiral I've wanted to see, but haven't found a DVD with subtitles
Kakishi was bad if I remember correctly

The rest is good stuff.

Try Audition as was stated earlier.

ring series

Trigger. I couldn't disagree with you more. I thought Ring 0 was a masterpiece - it literally moved me to tears. I know I am not alone either...http://www.zombiekeeper.com/reviews/ring0.html

Rasen, on the other hand, has been trashed by every reviewer I have ever read - but I haven't seen it...

I think Audition and The Eye are real masterpieces, Inner Sences is great, Ring movies are very good, and Uzumaki is pure crap. I'm yet to see the rest of the list (have most of them, but no time to watch).

For a mere feast of violence where blood splurs in all directions defying gravity, Ichi The Killer can not be beat, IMHO. The film doesn't make much sense, if any, but is very atmospheric. Oh, and regarding great films that don't make any sense but are still worth watching - Battle Royal is one of them, you might want to add it to your collection.

To each his own. I really enjoyed Uzumaki. Not for a horror film though, it's more just a weirdy feeling thing. Progressively more campy and twisted towards the end. (pun intended)

Gabe

Here is the list to get you started. Though asian zombies that scare is not all that common from what I have seen.

Versus Battle of good versus evil. With zombies that get guns.
Biozombie I expected this one to be crap, but it is a funny zombie movie.
Junk A mix of reservoir dogs meets zombies.
Stacy Teenage high school zombies. Region 1 out there I think

Then you have the what everyone has Ringu. Not one of my favorites, but alot of people love it.
Ju-On the grudge. Probably one of my favorites. It is a ghost story. Where the ghost follows you. More specifically people in your life, and kills them.
Dark Water. If you enjoy Ringu. You will prob enjoy this one.
The eye. I consider it a mix of the sixth sense meets final destination.
A tale of two sisters. Korean movie that gets compared to sixth sense.

A real short list, but somthing you can get your feet wet with.

My first choice for any other region dvd if he has it is www.xploitedcinema.com Xploited has the absolute best customer service. I can not say enough good things about xploited.

Then you have Diabolik http://www.diabolikdvd.com A bit pricier than xploited, but it has a good selection. I tend to go there since you are typically at the very least garunteed subtitles.

Edit: I hope you enjoy the asian Horror genre as much as I do. I have a hard time watching U.S. horrors now. They seem to almost always fall flat.

You can pick up Biozombie in the us. The same for the eye and ringu. I would give those a try to start with. Then move onto a region free player if you don't have one already.

Also check out the Mr Vampire series from HK!
