Brother Question
*SPOILER*
When I saw this one question was in my head. Why did Kitano Start problems in L.A. ? Why couldn't he have a peaceful life instead of getting everyone and himself killed. |
IMO, he was trying to make a living, replicating what he did in Japan. He knew no other life than organized crime.
I think after Aniki found his young brother and friends beaten up by the hispanic gang, he wants to show them what a real gang is.
BTW, which movie do you like more, Brother or Fireworks? I have yet to watch Fireworks, but do own it on DVD.
I have not seen Fireworks either.
Never saw Fireworks. What kind of movie is it?
Kitano directed and stars in it also. It was made 3 years prior to Brother and is supposed to contain some pretty violent scenes. I bought the R3 version because it is anamorphic WS. There is a R1 but it's not anamorphic.
"Detective Nishi is bitter when he learns that his wife Miyuki is terminally ill and his partner Horibe was shot and now tied to a wheelchair. Horibe wants to become a painter, but doesn't have money for that. To help him and a young police widow whose husband was shot dead during an arrest, he borrows money from yakuza. After that he buys an old car, paints it as a police car, and, dressed in uniform, singlehandedly robs a bank. With the money he goes on a final farewell journey together with his wife." |

Originally posted by RichDB10 Don't get me wrong...i enjoyed 'Brother' but much preferred 'Fireworks' (Hana-Bi) the two films couldn't be more different in a lot of ways and i believe the film making in 'Fireworks' benefitted from not having the constraints of trying to appeal to an audience in a western society as what was imposed in the making of 'Brother' |
We are getting a little off the subject. Does anyone know why he started war in L.A. then.
If I can chime in, Hana-Bi is Kitano's greatest work in my opinion. A heartbreakingly beautiful and hauting film.
And Deathdealer: maybe you should put some spoiler tags on your first post there. |
Hey DeathDealer. Thanks very much for the unnanounced spoiler in your opening post... I had planned to see this movie which is what made me check out this thread which I'm now regretting.
If I may repeat, Deathdealer: a spoiler tag would be nice.
