Ping Pong HK Release - Any Opinions?
I'm thinking of running down to Chinatown tomorrow to pick this up, but I want to make sure it'll be worth getting the HK version over the R2 release.
First off, is the HK version a R3 or R0 release? Which distributor released it (Universe, Mega Star, etc.)?
Secondly, what's the video quality and transfer like? I've picked up too many legit HK DVDs that suffer terrible artifacting.
Third, I know it's much to ask if it includes the great extras from the R2 two-disc release, but I'm wondering if there are any extras at all? I hear the CGI documentary on how they created the ping pong tournaments is really good, so it may be worth getting the R2 for that reason.
Thanks,
Jeremy

The HK version is distributed by Panorama and it's Letterbox & has DTS audio. Panorama is a decent distributor. I don't know about the R2 version, but I picked up the HK version which is indeed Region 3. It hasn't arrived yet, but I plan on doing a review when I get it and watch it.

It's awesome, I don't have a whiz bang tv setup but my surround is pretty good. The DTS audio sounds great and the soundtrack of the movie is pretty bumpin'. The video is vivid and nice too. I liked it better than infernal affairs, albeit different genres, just imho.
By the way, j. Did you end up geting the pingpong this weekend?

I pre-ordered the R2 disc months ago, unaware of a forthcoming R3 release. I don't have many regrets. The DTS track sounds great on the R2 disc but the picture is a bit soft on a 57-inch widescreen set. I'm not even sure if R3 is anamorphic or not. But being from Panorama, I doubt it is.
