La Belle Noiseuse?
I've seen what appears to be a Hong Kong-manufactured DVD of Rivette's La Belle Noiseuse showing up on ebay, but haven't found a single HK site that seems to carry it. Anybody have an idea of where it can be found?
For that matter, the DVD's running time seems to be 126 minutes, and La Belle Noiseuse is closer to 4 hours. So is this DVD version actually Rivette's own re-edited Divertimento, then (which, as I recall, did clock in around 2 hours plus), or is it some bizarre, butchered version of La Belle Noiseuse edited by H.K. censors for nudity or whatever?

It is Divertimento. I rented it a couple of weeks ago.
The transfer is nothing to write home about, but better than my VHS copy. The AR is 1.33:1. It is in French with selectable English and Chinese subtitles.
BTW, does anybody know what the OAR of La Belle Noiseuse is? I've only seen the 1.33:1 version that New Yorker Video put out in VHS years ago.

i've been keeping an eye on this blackstar listing for months now
http://www.blackstar.co.uk/video/item/7000000070358
it lists the film as having a distributor (artificial eye) but no specs, and no clue if its actually coming or not.

that would be wonderful if Artificial Eye did this right and released a nice edition of the full-length version.
mft -- where did you rent Divertimento/Belle Noiseuse/Beautiful Troublemaker? Is there somewhere to rent DVDs from other regions?

Interesting. I know that a box set of 8 of Rivette's films was released in France recently (alas, no subtitles of any kind). La Belle Noiseuse was one of them, and I understand that all films were remastered. Hopefully Artificial Eye can license them and release them for the non-french-speaking market...
Gypo66, I rented the DVD from Scarecrow (www.scarecrow.com), a Seattle-based video store. They have a big inventory of non-region 1 titles. They sell movies over the Internet, but I don't think you can rent from them other than by going to the store.

The release date is June 16. No other information available yet, though.

O...thank you so much for the info....i did not know that this one was coming out.....
are there any other future French releases that I should be aware of? I am sorry for asking this but I find it very hard to keep track of what is coming out in England...for some reason there is not that much info, or if there is some it is often unclear and inconsistent.
Thank you again!!

thanks mdm67!
now-
does anybody have experience with play.com?
how would you rate them?
i've order once from Blackstar and had no complaints.
i've ordered twice from Amazon.uk and one of the discs they sent me was without and shrinkwrap and had obviously been used. their response to this was "thats the way we get them sometimes".
that bugged me, so i'd rather avoid them again if possible.
play.com seems to have some good prices- hope the service is adequete.

Not that big of a problem really. The discs all played fine.

actually this practice has been discussed before but here are my 0.2 cents to the issue as well.
Not only are these non-shrinkwrap discs not used they come directly from the distribs. In many cases the ones I got without a bubblewrap were from the UK mostly. I suppose they get them directly from the warehouses in huge bulk quantities SO THAT IS WHY!
Bottom line......AMAZON is not selling you used discs!
*****
It is another issue that British discs are so expensive and I always either get their r4 counterparts (if available) or stay away. There are a few films that are available in England with subs and not available in France though.

bjohn:
it's a great movie and - in the company of Pialat's van Gogh - is one of those rare movies dedicated to the world of painting.
Most of the critics consider "la belle noiseuse" the best effort by director Jacques Rivette.
