favorite super-cheap Asian DVDs?
So I bought some titles blind from DVDShelf because ... well, because they were like $4 US apiece!
DARK WATER: another spooky film from the guy who did THE RING (Hideo Nakata).
INUGAMI: also a horror movie of sorts about ghosts and stuff, although the langourous scenes of papermaking were really my favorite part of the movie.
KAIRO: Kiyoshi Kurosawa's horror movie about ghosts on the Internet. It's so much better than that sentence sounds.
Granted, none of these discs are Criterion reference or anything - all single layer, compression artifacts noticable in blacks, sometimes dubious subtitling, et cetera. (Although I thought INUGAMI looked quite good.) But - they're $4! And they're legit! Hell, it costs $3.50 to rent new titles at the video store across the street!
(Yeah, there's also shipping, but I was buying some other stuff anyway, and the shipping's fixed cost for certain numbers of titles.)
So: anyone else want to recommend stuff in that price range? My only requirement is English subtitles (and not too gory - I like some horror stuff, and even like Cronenberg, but have shied clear of films like AUDITION and ICHI THE KILLER).

You might want to check out Battle Royale, Suicide Club, Memento Mori, and the Eye.
The eye is a chinese film kind of like the Sixth Sense.
Battle Royale, well if you don't know this one, just get it.
Suicide club is hard to find but is cool and very bloody.
Memento Mori is a sequel to Whispering Corridors an excellent Korean release. I know these are all on DVDShelf and DDDhouse. All in your price range. Check them out.

I became a huge fan of him after I watched the Y&D series.
