there was a Megastar R0 HK DVD.
Disney has the R1 rights.
I believe HKL has the R2 rights (PRAY FOR THIS ONE)

How is the megastar? Do the subs suck? Is the megastar OOP? I have access to a copy and was considering buying it. Will Disney release a censored version?

A real quick survey tells me that DDDhouse doesn't have it. HKFlix says its oop and illegal to ship in the US for Mickey Mouse licensing reasons. DVDshelf lists it as in stock, but as you know that doesn't necessarily guarantee availability.
If you can find one, get it.

If it's not out of print, it will be very soon. The film is now owned by Deltamac as part of the Fortune Star library. It will be reissued by them at some point but will most likely be coded for regions 3 and 6 only as they did with A Better Tomorrow and several other titles.

I owned the MegaStar last year. I was pleased with it (as with most MegaStars (non-anamorphic). If you can find it... grab it (especially if you are stuck on Region 1/0).

The official Deltamac VCD is $2.20 (another option... albeit unpleasant)

There used to be site called Bullet in the Web by mc4 that outlined all the various versions of BITH. It was last hosted on the hkmdb but it seems it's no longer there.

There's the standard "car chase ending" and the Mei Ah vcd "boardroom ending" and some other permutations I think.

Anyway, read the reviews at asiandvdguide.com to get a gist of it.

Found this: http://www.geocities.com/Tokyo/Gulf/1857/bith.html

HKL does indeed have the British R2 rights. (One more reason to buy a multi-region player!)

The Megastar version is decent if you can find it.

Disney will probably do the following to sanitize the movie:

1. All Asian cultural references will be cut.

2. Kung Fu Fighting will play over the closing credits.

3. White actors will dub the movie into English (badly) with exagerated Charlie Chan style accents.

4. Steven Spielberg will re-edit the movie so that they will play Russian roulette with walkie-talkies.

Does anyone ever bother to read my previous post. The Megastar DVD is available at Sensasian.com for $13.99

From the latest sensasian newsletter:

Classic HK Movie Reissues And Out Of Print Titles In Limited Quantities!!!

Please note, these titles are only available in very limited quantities so happy trails and our apologies if we run out.

Bullet In The Head - John Woo's supposed prequel to the Better Tomorrow series with its take on "The Deer Hunter", is a tale of disillusioned youth and betrayed friendships - bleaker than usual, starring Tony Leung Chiu Wai, Jacky Cheung, Waise Lee and Simon Yam!!!

Once A Thief - Chow Yun Fat, Leslie Cheung and Cherie Chung in this John Woo thief heist classic. Chw Yun Fat at his most Cary Grantish !!!

Story Of Ricky - the movie version of this gory Japanese comic is reissued at last!!!

Lifeline - Ringo Lam's take on the fireman's tale - explosive action starring Lau Ching Wan and Alex Fong

Viva Erotica - Leslie Cheung, Shu Qi and Elvis Tsui Kam Kong in Derek Yee's satitical look at softcore porn or Category III movie making in Hong Kong.

Big Bullet - this long sought after heroic bloodshed movie starring Lau Ching Wan

God Of Gamblers 3 - The Early Stage - It's hard to imagine anyone playing the young Chow Yun Fat character but Leon Lai acquits himself well in this prequel to the classic!!!

Wonder Seven - Michelle Yeoh and a cast of many in this action packed Indiana Jones type caper directed by Tony Ching Siu Tung

Gingko Bed - not HK but a Korean fantasy classic
