no ..i dont want to wait for the one from Lynch..im a fan of the film but not big enough to shell out 50 bucks and wait another 6 months and yes moderator..i already did a search and looked through the existing threads before I posted this

I can only tell you that the R4 is a terrible disc...avoid it at all costs.Incorrect framing...transfer looks like it came off VHS.I hope the R2 is better.I'm sure that the R1 version won't cost that much...although it could take a while.

My understanding is that both

the British R2 & Australian R4 DVDs are both full-frame P&S discs (see link below), while the OAR of ERASERHEAD is 2.35:1, so you lose A LOT of visual information with the R2 & R4 DVDs, so I would avoid both versions.

What about the R4 for Lost Highway, if you know?

Thanks, Tony Block

I've got a copy of the R4 "Lost Highway" coming from EzyDVD after the 1/8/03 price drop. Reviews I've read indicate that the transfer is lacking, but it is oar and anamorphic.

[The R2 is] definitely not that bad and sure beats the crap out of continually changing release dates, especially for all those who pre-ordered. And until the R1 is released, no guarantee it will be better.

No - it's 1.85:1.

Thanks, My Mistake.

Anyways, the point I'm making is I want to see Eraserhead presented in its OAR (& Lynch's prefered ratio), NOT a P&S 4:3 ratio, NOR a 4:3 ratio with soft-matts removed.

cheers, Tony Block

I just cancelled my R4 order and instead ordered the German R2 version from www.amazon.de for 25.84 Eurodollars (10.34 for the DVD and 15.50 for shipping, go figure), but the German R2 is anamorphic & also has 5.1 audio, compared to the R4 2.0.

The R4 of Lost Highway is just fine and can be purchased for about $A20 ($US12). The transfer is from a film source so has reel changes present but other than that, it's fairly good. While it lacks 5.1, the 2.0 is servicable and given Lynch's desire that no more than 10% of the sound should come from the surrounds (I read this in a Guardian weekly interview), I do not believe a full 5.1 soundtrack would add a great deal.

The R4 of Eraserhead is poo...

thanks! it looks like the reviews are mixed...IM not really interetsed in the ultimate edition of this anyway...I just like to throw it on when I am in the mood for some craziness and want to replace the worn VHS copy of mine so for 10 bucks the R4 sounds fine (as compared to the $50 one Lynch keeps messing with)
