Where to get El Topo & Holy Mountain?
Jodorowski's El Topo and The Holy Mountain have been announced for release for early July. I'm assuming these are Italian DVDs (they're PAL and put out by a company called Raro, who don't seem to have a functioning website at the moment), but dvdland.it doesn't appear to carry either, even as pre-orders. Any one have a line on where to get them?

they're supposedly just PAL transfers of the Japanese laserdiscs with the japanese subs blurred out and italian ones stuck on top.
what's the story with Allen Klein? why doesn't he want to release them?

According to Rarovideo's website, both El Topo and Holy Mountain are uncut. http://www.rarovideo.com/forum/topic...+con+Rarovideo

From the webpage in the above post:
"Hi thanks for your message and our apologise for the delay in answering to you. the following is the information you requested:
The Holy MountainDVD
for the production of this DVD we have been using the japanese laserdisc master but we have edited the scene with optical censorship and in its place we have inserted the same scene (without the censorship)taken from a very good italian restore 35 mm print."
If that is true, why didn't they use the "very good italian restore 35 mm print" for the whole damn thing?
I wouldn't trust this company. These DVDs are probably nowhere near worth the money they are asking. Hopefully what they say about the El Topo disc is true, because the Spanish-language version is much better. It'll still probably look like crap.

Here's the link of when this all started.
The Clip for EL TOPO on raro site is
in Spanish with Italian subs. Who knows what the DVD will be in?
Again the quality of their PAL tapes are very bad.
The UK English subtitled copy is much
better than this. Sadly thank's to Klein that too is out of print.
My guess these babies are going to sell like wild fire and then fade into the sunset once NYC and Abkco finds out.
I smell ebay Profits coming.

I've read in the forum on Raro Video site that the holy mountain dvd has some missing scenes that are available in the UK VHS
So I'd say it is not really "UNCUT"
The post was made by someone called Mauro(Not me) and it is in Italian

NEWS?
I made a post on other forum(Horror HQ) and this is what I got:
"From what I've read about the upcoming imports, there are no English audio tracks. English subs only. I've got the Japanese LaserDiscs, and will hold onto them for the simple fact that the English dubs were exceptional! Too bad they didn't include them on the DVD!
I emailed Iris Keitel (who works for Allen Klein), and their US DVD plans won't see fruition until AT THE EARLIEST - Fall 2003!"

Point 2: Those who believe what Klein or his toadies say deserve to be disappointed.

Seems the Raro release of El Topo is about the best we'll get. I'll pay $25-$30 for the uncut spanish language version, which I agree is much preferable than an english dub. From all I've read(thanks Jepthah) it sounds unlikely a Klein sanctioned release will ever happen. And even then, if I understand correctly, Klein's "official" version carries an english dub? I'm snapping up the Raro R2 PAL import, the video quality on the trailer didn't seem near unacceptable to me, considering the history of the film.

updates?
SO, did anyone get THE HOLY MOUNTAIN DVD??? What's it like - quality of picture/sound; what's the running time (very important)? Is there optical blurring of the genitals (like on the Japanese laserdisc)?
Somebody let us know.....
Also, any word on what the quality of the EL TOPO release will be? Anybody out there with an advance copy?
Since these are Rarovideo's first DVD releases they could be anywhere from being exceptionally remastered (yeah right) to just being bootleg transfers of their VHS tape-copies to DVD-R.....
Anyone?

Holy Mountain reviewed
Here's the review with screenshots. It was my first viewing of the film and I cannot comment on the edited shots. The quality of the print isn't great and a little fuzzy, but it's anamorphic.
