Hi there!
my humble opinion is that the movie is well directed, the actors are convincing, alas the overall feeling you preserve after watchin' it is: disgust, repulsion.
Furthermore I doubt Tyler Durden's assessment about the moral value of the movie unless you believe that a crime justifies thirst of vengeance, if you believe that, well then it's a moral movie.
As for me the movie is amoral because if you survive two repellent and disgusting scenes then Noè - by reversing the causality of the events in the film - will lead you to believe to his a/moral message.

I wouldn't make the mistake of thinking that we're supposed to root for the film's two male characters in these opening scenes. The reversed causality shows that they were inintially good and sensible men, but whose goodness was destroyed by time and, more specifically, their lack of consideration.

Besides,
Spoiler:
in the very beginning of the movie, both of the two men in question are completely destroyed by their actions and feelings (namely, their vengefulness). Maybe if they rode into the sunset together the movie would be amoral, but as it is now, I don't see how that conclusion can be arrived at. It was with intense sadness that I witnessed the film's final scenes, because I realized that the two men had in fact lost something much greater than Bellucci's character's had: their humanity.

The movie doesn't attempt to justify or condemn, which is the precise reason it consists of long takes with naturalistic lighting, and why the two brutal scenes are presented calmly and thoroughly without shying away from the "less pleasant" details. Like Pasolini's Salò, the film needs to be repulsive to stay true to its subject matter, that is, its point about the fragility of all that we cherish.

in my all-wordly cynicism....probably enough to get the French disc.

amazon.fr also has two listings for this, or is it just a mistake? a single disc and a 2 disc set....Might just be a listing error on Amazon's part.

There are two different versions listed - lostatmidnight was referring to this listing for a 2-disc edn.

Dazza.

...alas for the French-impaired: it looks 99.9999% certain that there'll be no English subs for the January 22, 2003 French DVD release of that milestone of cutting-edge, envelope-pushing world cinema titled Irréversible ... nor for its simultaneously (re-)released companion piece Seul contre tous...

. . . . . .

2 disc or 1 ?

So there are 2 version of IRREVERSIBLE dvd.

But is the 2 disc version just the IRREVERSIBLE dvd bundled with the director debut Seul Contre Tous dvd ?

Or is the IRREVERSIBLE dvd itself has 2 disc ?

...as far as I'm concerned there are TWO French DVD releases:

1) Single-disc of "Irréversible"

2) Released on the same day: two-disc-pack including "Irréversible" and "Seul contre tous"

...in other words, there appears to be NO two-disc version of just the one movie "Irréversible"...

...watch this space for more exciting news about this Deathless Paragon of Cinematic High Art...!...

The Dutch DVD was released without English subtitles, but QiX group did their own English translation of subtitles.

Getting close to go-time on this DVD, where is everyone buying it from? I'd like to get the 2-DVD CE, Amazon.fr seems a little steep at 34,99 EUR.

"Irreversible" is indeed disturbing, offensive, sickening, and exploitative. But it is at the same time thought-provoking, thoughtful, and original. That the film and the director really does not think much of humanity or our future is telling, but the pessimism does not hinder what I consider to be a truly interesting and daring film. I especially liked the ending, though I will not give too much away.

I just find the overly talkative scene in the Metro utterly uninvolving.

All that I want to hear is the street date for the UNRATED LionsGate DVD. Just tell me when and where.....

Money is not an issue (.....as far as this release is concerned).

ps.
I do not want to argue with anyone but I could hardly imagine ANYONE expecting Harry Potter-esque production after all the buzz this film generated. Besides....just by mentioning the Noe name ......this should give you an idea what to expect.
