Elia Kazan Boxset - 3 classics

The guys who edited the 3 DVDs boxset of the man who wasn't there in France are preparing a boxset with three classics of Elia Kazan.

The world is pretty weird, French classic movies are edited by Criterion while true US classics are edited by a French company.

Anyway the list of Kazan's titles available in the boxset on the 3rd of Dec will be

- America, America (YESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS)
- A face in the crowd
- Baby Doll

"...The world is pretty weird, French classic movies are edited by Criterion while true US classics are edited by a French company..."

...well now, I would say rather a lot of French 'classic' movies - 'old' and new - are edited by French companies who, incidentally, generally provide excellent transfers of good source copies - think Chabrol, Truffaut, Lelouch, but also Carné, Becker, Clément, Melville, Clouzot...

. . . . . .

I was thinking of the best French movie ever Les Enfants du Paradis which is not available in R2FR.

But you are right the editor MK2 made a hell of a job with its Truffaut collection.

...ahhh... not only 'the best French movie ever' but also my favorite movie ever (with Ugetsu Monogatari a close second)...

...oh... and incidentally, think of the Astaire/Rogers musicals and/or Val Lewton-produced movies, none of which are available in R1 yet (afaik), but several of which are available on French DVD...

Has anyone picked this set up.?

I'd like to know how the quality is and if the subtitles are removable. Thanks.

Quite an old topic....
The subs are not removable.

Picture quality is OK (a bit of remanance in the picture).

All movies are 4/3. I always wondered if America,America had an intended aspect ration of 1.33 but never found the answer.

Last but not least the boxset might be out of print now.

I though that after the death of Kazan his movies will be finally available on DVD. Looks like the studios do not care....
Too bad
