Seeking advice on German movies on DVD

I'm going to Germany next week and since I haven't seen a German movie in a while (except for "Run Lola Run/Lola rennt", "Anatomy/Anatomie" and "Mostly Martha/Bella Martha") I though I might as well pick up some DVDs while I'm there.

I'm looking at:
14 Tage lebenslänglich
Bandits
Knockin' On Heaven's Door
Männer
Rossini
Schtonk
Stadtgespräch

I have seen all of those before so I know what I'm getting. However, I haven't seen any more recent ones.
What blind purchases can you recommend based on the above selections?

Thanks,
basketb

...just in case... you could always get Tom ("Lola rennt") Tykwer's latest Opus: Heaven - if you don't mind having 'locked' German subs on the English/Italian original version...

...recommended: Volker ("The Tin Drum") Schlöndorff's Der Unhold ("The Ogre") starring John Malkovich ... the disc features a German soundtrack, with Malkovich's voice dubbed by a German actor, as well as an English dub soundtrack, featuring JM's own voice ... the Director provides one of the best running commentaries ever - in German, natch!...
(...the R1 DVD from kino features a non-'enhanced-for-16:9-TVs' letterbox transfer and doesn't have the commentary...)

...by the same Director: Die Stille nach dem Schuss...

..."Schtonk!"'s Götz George delivers a remarkable performance in Romuald Karmakar's fascinating Kammerspiel Der Totmacher - only German HoH subs on the DVD...

...to name just a few worthy German DVDs from my own 'collection'...

(...incidentally, Knockin' On Heaven's Door does not have subtitles in any language...)

. . .

Thanks, Henrik, for the recommendations.

To answer your first question, English subtitles are not needed and would probably never be used.

...ahh... in that case I can recommend a few more titles:
Aimée & Jaguar, Das Experiment, Comedian Harmonists, the stupendous three-part, five-hour TV DocuDrama Die Manns ... and, talking of Thomas Mann, there are also DVDs of Die Buddenbrooks and Der Zauberberg...

. . .

Here's some more that you might enjoy
These are really worth having (IMO)
KALT IST DER ABENDHAUCH - very good Ingrid Noll adaptation
JETZT ODER NIE - 3 80 year old ladies rob a bank and are not only confronted with incarceration but also with death. Really original, different film (produced by Til Schweiger (star of Knocking on Heaven's Door)
BIN ICH SCHOEN? - multi storyline woven around vacations in Spain
DIE APOTHEKERIN - another good Ingrid Noll adaptation
also good are:
2 MAENNER, 2 FRAUEN, 4 PROBLEME - Cheating Comedy in Venice
ST.PAULI NACHT - multi storyline woven around Hamburg nightlife
NUR AUS LIEBE - good German action film with female lead
SIEBEN MONDE - thriller/crime/horror which Germans seldom do
SOLO FUER KLARINETTE - the German Basic Instinc but much grittier and more depressing.
DIE UNBERUEHRBARE - can be bought REALLY cheaply and is a good film - just be prepared for REALLY depressing (Won best Actress and best Film in Germany) also has english subtitles, though this doesn't seem to be a concern for you anyways.

Hendrik, do you have Das Experiment. I take it there are no English subs? Is it anamorphic?

thanks eXcentris. I somehow missed the UK listing. I thought it was only available in Germany. I'll check it out.
