Straw Dogs (uncut) R2 SE details! Tons of extras!

Just saw the details of the upcoming October 7th UK release of Peckinpah's "Straw Dogs" on the net. Here are the details (from The R2 Project):

  • Television South West on location documentary (7 mins 30 secs)
  • 1971 BBC on location documentary (10 mins 30 sec)
  • 1971 Original US Theatrical Trailer (1 min 50 secs)
  • 1971 Original US TV ad spots 10' 30' & 60' secs
  • 1971 Original US Radio ad spots 30' & 60' secs
  • Experts commentary with Peckinpah biographers Paul Seydor, Garner Simmons & David Weddle
  • Commentary with Katy Haber, Dialogue Director and Peckinpah's lover/assistant
  • Isolated Oscar nominated Jerry Fielding score in stereo featuring additional scores
  • Interview with Peckinpah's Biographer Garner Simmons (20 – 30 mins)
  • Interview with Susan George (20 – 30 mins)
  • Info on deleted scenes (via shooting script & stills)
  • History of Straw Dogs and the Censor
  • B&W Behind the scenes/on location stills (28) Original B&W publicity stills: UK (20) US (2)
  • Original colour publicity stills: Germany (15) France (3)
  • Original colour lobby cards: Spain (12)
  • Original 1971 films posters from around the world (9) & set of Spanish film posters (9)
  • Trivia and film facts (e.g. Various film reviews of the time, What is a Straw Dog?, Production information, Film Trivia)
  • Uncut article from Dec 2001
  • Biographies: Dustin Hoffman, Susan George, Sam Peckinpah, Dan Melnick, Jerry Fielding
  • 1999 BBFC letter of rejection
  • Harold Pinter & Peckinpah letters
  • Peckinpah letter to Richard Harris
  • Dan Melnick & Peckinpah letters/memos
  • Dan Melnick & Stephen Murphy of BBFC letters
  • New York Times critics article
  • London film critics Letter to The Times
  • Stephen Murphy reply to The Times letter
Looks like a winner to me. This edition will most certainly make the Anchor Bay release obsolete.

I'm pretty sure I'll be upgrading this, but is the UK dvd going to be anamorphic?

That's what I was thinking. I guess we'll have to wait and see.

Here's an interesting article about the recording of the commentary track:

Just got the disc. Yes. it's anamorphic. It looks great and it's also region 0. I can't recommend this disc highly enough, it's a true special edition!

I find it really interesting that both the UK editions of "Straw Dogs" and "Wicker Man" are superior to their Region 1 editions, in particular the "exclusive" commentary track on the "Wicker Man" disc.
