Question about Les Miserables (1978 version)

Can anybody tell me what the original aspect ratio was? And could anybody give me a revew on the two different versions?

Australian version

UK Version

I see the Australian version is in full frame, and I own the VHS copy of this movie and it's in full frame, but the UK version doesn't give a detail of what the aspect ratio is. If somebody could help answer this I would appreciate it.
