Ed Wood (R2)- Out in Japan

For those of you still waiting for Ed Eood in other areas, the bare-bones (and I do mean bare-bones), DVD is out in Japan.

Review:
Watched it last night. Beautiful anamorphic transfer. Nice 5.1 English soundtrack. You also get a Japanese 2.0 soundtrack.

The quest:
The movie came out on August 21st and I checked the local DVD shops and not one had it. I was wondering if it had been delayed like the other region releases. Finally I went to one of the major DVD shops thinking that they would have it, largest selection I've found so far, and they didn't. Finally on the way home I decided to check the Tsutaya video store (kindof the Blockbuster of Japan) and there were two copies sitting on the shelf. Finally found one.

Price:
It's released as part of the 2,500 yen (US$21) Buena Vista "The Moviest" series. Not a bad price for Japan. Also got a free mini-clock with the purchase.

Extras:
Absolutley nonthing. Not even a trailer. It's movie only. The menus are animated and pretty cool. The main menu shows an animated Johnny Depp's face looking at the "Voice, Subtitles Chapter" listings on a large screen in front of an audience in a movie theater. When you select one, the crowd starts throwing popcorn and screaming until the next screen comes up and everyone starts cheering. Kindof of cool, Ed Wood type of movie experience.

Good if you want the movie only to tide you over to the eventual region 1 SE release.

Enjoy
