Battle Royale (Special Edition) on front page?

What's the difference between this and the R3 disc I have? I have multi-region and PAL capabilities, and I love my Battle Royale disc. So do ALL MY FRIENDS. But HKFlix lits a markedly more expensive "Special Edition" - does it have extra features over what I have?

The differences:

The Tartan disc is:
Region 0
Anamorphic
Sharp and clear image
Blue tint is there, but not as prevalent
Excellent DD 5.1 soundtrack - wicked bass!
Expensive

the Universe sics:
Region 3
4:3 Letterbox
Soft image
Prevalent blue tint on the image
Decent sountrack, but not too active
Very cheap

Sadly, both are interlaced sources. The Tartan DVD is NOT a progressive source as advertised.

How do you find out if a disc is interlaced or progressive?

I got the R2 Battle Royale Special Version from Japan (the one that came out last month or May or some other recent time). As far as I know, that version is the only one with the extra 8 minutes.

play the DVD on your PC using some DVD player software, like PowerDVD. Force it to use the Weave video function (there's Bob and Auto).
If you get combing during movements, then it's interlaced.

Combing is basically lines thru the images as movement appears, so the image looks crappy...

...on progressive players. If you just have an analog TV and a non-progressive DVD player, then this disc is very nice.

What extra 8 minutes?
