Kiyoshi Kurosawa's Cure coming from France's MK2 with Eng. subs and other releases!
For those of you who wanted Kiyoshi Kurosawa's Cure, but didn't want to pay the high Japanese price it looks like MK2 will be releasing this on September 4th this year with an Anamorphic transfer and Eng. subs. I can't recomend this movie enough, it's a really great film. Here is the link.

Truffaut's "Fahrenheit 451" is also coming 6/19/2002 with anamorphic video. The current Image release is OOP.

Goodbye South, Goodbye
9/4 see's the release of Hou Hsiao-Hsien's "Goodbye South, Goodbye". It's anamorphic with subs. I think I'll have to upgrade my Fox Lorber version now.

SW, any clues if the French subs on F451 will be fixed or removable?
|
I don't know, but that's a good question, I didn't even think about it. I think I'll wait til someone picks it up and confirms they are removable.

"...It looks like there is a limited edition of [Fahrenhet 451] coming out as well..."

That's great about the English subs on the French DVD of The Wind Will Carry Us. What are the chances, though, of the Kiarostami doc on that disc having subs?
|
Wind Will Carry Us
Probably not very good, but the first five truffaut releases had subs on the extras, so who knows.

SUNDAY is an excellent film - so good that I might finally have to go region-free. And CURE is incredible as well.
Are all of these PAL releases? |
cool

A reliable source on the CriterionDVD boards says that Criterion will be releasing Cure later this year. So you may want to hold off on the MK2 edition a couple of months just to see what Criterion (may) have to offer.

so am I the only one who's turned off by the idea of PAL speedup? I haven't experienced it yet, but I'm pretty attentive to audio and it sounds like it would bug me. That's the main reason I haven't gone PAL yet.
Criterion CURE would rock the house! |
Has MK2 announced what the supplements will be on the Cure DVD?
so am I the only one who's turned off by the idea of PAL speedup? I haven't experienced it yet But tell people about PAL speedup, and suddenly everyone's an expert. I'll grant that a) people with perfect pitch b) people with good relative pitch who have both the PAL & NTSC version in their machines for a serious A/B comparison can tell the difference. But realistically speaking only people with perfect pitch would potentially be bothered by it. The rest is pure imagination. Ted |
