Are La Haine and Das Fest out of print?
 

I finally got a region selectable player, and I'm trying to order these, and dammit if I can find EITHER of these...or am I just not looking hard enough? I looked at a bunch of the stores listed in the FAQ...

I assume you can find it at other German retailers. Just a warning, it won't be of much use unless you know Danish or German.

Das Fest?!?!??! Why are you calling it by its German name rather than its orighinal Danish name, Festen?

I'm perplexed.

I just assumed he wanted the German DVD edition. Or that he didn't know the original title. I don't see much to be perplexed about.

I just ordered La Haine from Amazon.fr, and it shipped yesterday. It now says "Ships in 1 - 2 weeks". Must of got the last on-hand. Don't think it's OOP though.

...fyi: the german DVD of Festen includes a German dub (natch! the average German will watch subtitled non-German-language movies only if forced at gunpoint!) as well as the original Danish soundtrack --- with 'locked' (= non-optional, non-removable) German subtitles...

Well, I know it has 3 different title interpretations-

Festen
Das Fest
and Celebration

I saw it twice in when I was in England, and once it said Das Fest on the cover, and once it said Festen on the cover. I apologize if I have offended anyone by asking for the wrong title.

Anyways, I should have been more specific, I need a version that has English subtitles (for both movies actually) and the few places I saw that carried that version had it listed as OOP (UK e-tailers). I only know conversational French and minute amounts of Japanese and Korean, so other than English, I'm screwed...

DVDZone2 has FESTEN listed, but no English subtitles listed, but what is weird, is this listed under features:

Amazon.fr did have La Haine In-Stock yesterday, but now it says "ships in 1-2 weeks". This version does have English subtitles.

I just ordered L'Apartement yesterday, and it said "ships in 1-2 weeks", and I got an email today stating that it shipped. I would say Amazon would be your safest bet for La Haine...

FYI, a Korean release (StarMax) of La Haine was just released.

...according to the cinéstore site, the French DVD (which has optional English subs) will be available in a couple of weeks... this would be the disc to have in any case (rather than a Korean, Uk, or whatever release - the horse's mouth and all that, don't you know!... just MNSHO, of course!)...

That DVD has been out since (21 Août 2001 or August 21, 2001). It is the one I got from Amazon.fr (See post 5 in this thread).

Very nice disc, and definitely the preferred DVD to own (no subs on the extras:(). I was just letting everyone know another choice was out there now.

You right though: " seulement achat du pays original, à partir duquel le film a été fait si à tout possible."

...ahh... in my experience (English) subs (or even Captions) on extras are exceedingly rare... let's see... five Truffaut movies... all RUSCICO movies... that's all I can think of, offhand... :(

Boy! Am I glad I didn't sleep through French & German classes at school!
