I know this is the theory, but what bands has this actually happened too? Some of the best punk albums ever have been on a major label. Bands like Green Day(Dookie), Bad Religion(Recipe for Hate, Stranger than Fiction), Social D(White Light, White Heat, White Trash), and Jawbreaker (Dear You), were already great bands and deserved to be signed.
I think it's the unestablished bands that are more likely to be pushed around by a major label. The label snaps them up just hoping that they've found the next Blink or Green Day. Bands like Sum 41, Good Charlotte, Fenix TX, or the legendary Schleprock!!

Yeah Green day was huge in the 90's but they faded pretty quick(Fine with me). They made a little come back with the Nimrod album. That just shows the power of MTV. Now days all they play is Rap/R&B, Rap-Rock, or Blink 182.
That has not been my experience... perhaps we live in parallel dimensions. What color is the sky in your world? Anyway - I'll agree to disagree with you on this - I've had this conversation far too many times and it usually ends up with someone crying. I will agree that Jawbreaker's Dear You is one of the best albums of all time though.

Cool hijack dudes, but the true golden age of punk was 1976-1981. (Ramones, Clash, Sex Pistols, Damned, Black Flag, Circle Jerks, Dead Kennedys, X, Fear and Bad Religion) It was a great time to be young and living in LA!
You can call it what you want... I agree that this was a great time for punk rock. I'd pull Ramones and the Damned off that list, but that's just my personal taste. I've seen half those bands live and they do indeed rock. I never lived in LA, but I can imagine what a good time you had.

Obviously, in your world AFI is a glam band that sings about pirates.
