Booooo! :( I want my R1 SE!

Matt Stevens 05-01-02 01:48 PM

The sound is fake 5.1. The original masters were destroyed. Apparently, this remix does NOT sound very good at all.

All non-R1 DVD threads go into the International Forum... moving thread.

That is not true. I have the new R2 SE and it is a genuine remix using the original elements although the main benefit is to the music. Universal couldn't find the original stereo music tracks for the R1 issue but MGM (who distributed the film outside the USA) obviously had access to them. A couple of years ago the film was issued in Germany on DVD and was given a phoney DD 5.1 re-mix and that certainly does sound bad.

Conan... cool! :D

Someone refresh my memory please...
Is region 4 NTSC?

Thanks,
Gabe

thalion 05-01-02 06:22 PM

R4 is generally PAL ... there are said to be a few R4 NTSC discs, but Conan is reported to be a PAL one.

Doh! Another chalk mark in favor of the malata! :)

Better still, get a multi-standard TV-set - and play back NTSC and PAL in their native format! No conversion is always better than even a good conversion ... :)
Unfortunately such sets seem to be rather expensive in the US ...
