Although the film has been out for awhile R2 France - I just ordered it from dvdzone2.com for $21 (US) shipped. Good price. Great movie. With English Subs.

Get it!

I would call it a docu-drama. The reviewer from Hendrik's link didn't seem to get hooked with it... The musicians are real gypsies - The music is real - Some of the sequences are 'setup' to dramatize the plight but within the context of music. The overall theme is one of 'connection across continents'. It's remarkable to see how similar the gypsies in North Africa are to the gypsies in India.

If you love music, so-called 'world music' then this is a must have. I've had the opportunity to actually see some the musicians featured in the film, live on stage. The film does a great job with transporting you 'there' to the village in the middle of the Rajastani desert, the square in some Romanian town next to the train station, a small cafe somewhere in France, a bluff overlooking slums in Southern Spain.

The drama comes from a community of people all over the world shunned and forced from their homes into a nomadic-like existence... and their grief expressed through music.

...two more movies by Tony Gatlif (who, incidentally, is himself a Gypsy!) are available on French DVD - with optional English subtitles:
