Daren, you have to go into your account details and ensure that the correct country is selected before proceeding to the checkout screen. I was having the exact same problem myself but once I amended my details it removed the GST on-screen for me.

Tried that but still don't get the tax removed.

I made the order and trust in Glenn as he says that GST will not be charged.

if i could find the mummy/the mummy returns boxset on their site i would probably pick it up but i can't find it. :(

I think the gst glitch is taken care of, because I ordered Angel season 2 this afternoon, and it was subtracted from my total.

Does anyone know if the free shipping would apply to a pre-order? (Got my eyes on Buffy season 4, but if there's no price break to preorder it now, I might as well just wait till it's really out.)

Could anyone tell me which region these films are?

Most are Region 4, some are region 2 & 4 and some are region 0. More importantly for USA people is that the vast majority are PAL and not NTSC although distributors in Australia have started issuing NTSC region 4 discs to save money on re-mastering.

Angel R4 is pan & scan whereas the UK R2 version is anamorphic widescreen and very lovely it looks too. Better packaging as well IMO.

Surely when you buy a fine wine or an expensive piece of meat, you don't car about the packaging, so why should you care about the case of a DVD.

Evidently many people feel the same way as me. I’m also a graphic designer specialising in DVD and VHS packaging and in my professional opinion the R2 Buffy/Angel and Star Trek Next Gen packaging is some of the most creative and well considered design I’ve seen for DVD.

If packaging didn‘t matter at all presumably you’d be happy to get your discs in a brown paper bag? If packaging didn’t matter there wouldn’t be the ongoing furore over Warner’s continued use of snapper cases in the face of universal hatred of said packaging. If packaging didn’t matter why not just put the title of the movie in large black capital letters on a white background and rack that in Ballbuster and see how it sells/rents.

In short - of course packaging matters. Everything is packaged. Clothes, movies, cars, news - everything. Why not take the time and make that packaging attractive? Make the world a better looking and better designed place to live in.

I've never ordered here before, but I just picked up The Stepfather, Death of a Salesman, and Lorenzo's Oil.

I disagree packaging, in terms of design does not matter.

All I need for a DVD is to be able to identify a film from the outside and to protect the disc itself.

Packaging is only a way of keeping people in jobs, some designs of DVD cases are so un-userfriendly that you may as well have them in a paper bag.

Many of the people on these forum's seem to think that good packaging makes a good film, also good extras make a good film.

This is not true, most people buy a DVD, first for the film, after all without the film, there would be no extras or arty farty packaging.

The second thing most people want is great extras.

The third thing most people want is a good price.

Nothing to do with the packaging, give me a label on the box and an excellent film/extras any day rather that a shite film and the most colourful packaging in the world.

Design for design's sake.

I don't think anyone here thinks good packaging makes a good film. You're right in some of these comments:

People buy DVDs of movies they like period. Extras and good packaging on a movie they like are a bonus. In the international forum, we often have a choice of packaging on a movie we like so we balance price variables with how much we like the artwork/package design. If you think package design means nothing - ask those who bought the latest edition of Evil Dead... the case looks like the Book of the Dead and yet the DVD contains more or less the same extras and content of a previous release. I'd guess that a majority of the people who bought this edition of the Evil Dead already owned a previous release of it. The rest who bought it did so because they were in part enticed by the packaging and in part because they liked the film and had not owned it before. I've sold DVDs so I could purchase essentially the same DVDs in different packaging. Lots of people have. There's nothing wrong with it at all and it doesn't sound to me like you've quite got your finger on the pulse of society in this case. I don't think many people will buy a DVD of a movie they dislike just because of the packaging, but given a choice most consumers will go for the DVD with the better packaging if the content on both is the same. Case in point - the Akira DVD. The Akira TIN sold heaps even though it cost more than the standard cased special edition that had the same content. I doubt just forum members contributed to that. Then there's people like you who don't care about packaging... I've gotten a few DVDs through half.com from people like you... that's fine too. There's a discussion going on about the different special editions of Speed... the prices for all 4 editions (except the japanese version) are probably going to be roughly the same and the extras on the discs are going to be roughly the same. The only difference really will be the cover art and box design. Some people are surely going to pick the edition that best suits their taste. If you still don't think people care about packaging, ask someone who collects DVDs if they prefer snapper cases to amaray cases... most of them will have an answer for you. If you don't care about packaging, that's fine - but there's no reason to bad-mouth others because they do care. Some people display their collection... I have most of mine in boxes on the floor under the entertainment center, but there are some really nice box sets and metal cases and gatefold cases with slipcovers that stand out as being a little extra cool, so I display those. That doesn't make me a freak or anything... all it means is that I'm not like you. Someday we'll all be dead and none of this will matter when the robots are running things unless the robots somehow uncover this thread resident on someone's old hard drive and use it as a case against allowing humans to continue to live.

Despite the case design argument, which I won't get into as a graphic designer, this has been one helpful damn thread. THANKS! Now I have some discs that I can play in my shiny new PAL converting Region Hacked Daewoo 5800!
