Region Free DVD Newbie

I'm thinking about entering the realm of region free DVD players. Right now, I only enjoy Region 1 DVDs, but am looking into getting a multiregion player as well, so I can enjoy Futurama, Family Guy and others not released in R1. I was looking at the Malata N996 codefree player (since I want progressive scan) and am wondering what is the best (cheapest) place to find this? Also, is it worth the $$ investing in a code free player? (I.E. are there vast improvements in R2-R8 DVDs to warrant a purchase?

While not really wanting to deter anyone from "joining in", I think that the points raised above are discussed on existing threads most (if not all) of which are still on Page One. Perhaps anything that needs further clarification can be posted in a pre-existing thread? [Benedict]
