Millenium Mambo Review wanted

This movie was supposedly released on DVD on Friday. Anybody seen it?

...don't know about the DVD (released on a Friday you say?) but this review of the movie - as shown at the 2001 Cannes Film Festival - doesn't make it sound at all appealing - to me, that is...

Simple answer - do you like films by Hou?

If you do, you'll probably like it. If not, then you won't. If you've never seen a Hou film, you should do that before buying Millennium Mambo, which isn't his strongest work anyways.

If you don't like slow films, don't buy it.

"...If you don't like slow films, don't buy it..."

...actually, I don't mind 'slow' films per se - heck, I sat through all 180 minutes of Meet Joe Black without flinching - well almost without flinching... and I love In The Mood For Love and Stalker, for instance...

...you'll have to admit, though, that some 'slow' films are or seem to be 'slower' than others - and it's not a matter of a movie's length either!...

...anyway, I have the French DVD of Flowers Of Shanghai on order, so I'll find out soon enough what Mr Hou is about...

Hell, I'll be honest and say that I bought it cuz of Shu Qi. So sue me! :P

I like slow films too and the reviewer above seems to have an axe to grind about something... I'll post my thoughts on it once I watch it.

Ummmm...what axe to grind?

Have you *seen* a Hou film?

If you thought that In the Mood for Love was slow, well, go watch a Hou film. In the Mood for Love will seem like Armageddon.

Not that I dislike Hou's films - quite the opposite, actually. Flowers of Shanghai is exquisite.

I'm looking forward to this movie at the San Fran film festival. I wouldn't say I'm a Hou fan, but I like movies where I have to figure out what its about.

And speaking of In the Mood for Love, I just saw it again last week and it really flew by for me. I think maybe because I started looking for the little details and it really is low on the running time.

special request - Mambo soundtrack

To, anyone who happens to see it, can I request that you pay particular attention
to the soundtrack and report back here? I'm tempted to get the OST but would like
some impressions from anyone who's heard/seen it, as I won't be ordering the
film right away. TIA
