Scarface Region 2

I once read that the Region 2 version of Scarface had an excellent transfer and was not hideous like the U.S. Collectors edition. Is this true or was there a re-release of the region 2 version that had this good transfer.

I am about to order this DVD from Amazon.co.uk: http://www.amazon.co.uk/exec/obidos/...32865-0723055.

Is this what I'm looking for?

go for it

It is Widescreen 2.35:1 Anamorphic! A lot better than the OOP US version.

I've got it for sale in the exchange forum It's definitely an improvement over the nasty R1 transfer.

Does anyone know if there is a difference between the R2 release with 'The Uncut Version' written on the cover and the original release which doesnt have this written on. Was the old release cut or did they just add this onto a later release to advertise the fact that it is uncut more?

I believe they're both uncut, as long as the BBFC rating is 18 (which it undoubtably is).

I recommend the BBFC site (http://www.bbfc.co.uk/) for anyone looking for for primary source info. A search on scarface shows quickly that the 1984 and 1987 video versions were cut by 25 seconds (to get an "18" certificate!), but that subsequent releases were uncut.

That's true, but the main things is that both UK DVD releases of the film (although I still believe there is only one) are uncut.

FYI I believe the R4 disc is identical to (at least) one of the R2 releases, and they're almost giving it away at some stores here (US$9.25).
