i have this dvd and while i love the movie, the sound is at a very low volume, the picture is blurry, and the picture has been squished a little bit. but i bought it anyways since this is about the only that i'd be able to see it widescreen, if it's cheap, i'd pick up a copy.

SEs of the whole "Baby Cart" series are being worked on by a company; forgot which one. (Don't think they're going to release Shogun Assassin, though.)

I bought one on ebay quite a while ago from this dude [email protected]. I've bought stuff from him before and have had good experiences. This particular dvd was kind of weak though. Maybe for 14 US bucks its ok, but after conversion and shipping I paid close to 30 Canadian. The picture quality was the kicker for me. It was hazy almost like it was unfocused, and it did seem squised. It was like watching it in an OAR that was very very narrow.

The film itself was decent. I think I would have enjoyed it alot more if the dvd was a better quality. As it stands right now, I traded my copy away for an older shaw bro venoms flick (can't remember exactly which one though).

Actually I'll be posting a review for it in the database later this week. It is Region 0 but PAL... And it is AnimEigo that has long promised to put out Lone Wolf and Cub on DVD, along with their other Samurai Cinema titles. They did a great job on the vhs releases so I expect the best; the first two films are rumored to come out, hopefully, this year.

Deke Rivers - PAL is the signal your TV recieves (U.S. is NTSC) and encoding is exclusive to DVD, meaning which country you can play it on.

As for Shogun Assassin that is on E-bay from Stiller, I know for a fact it is bootlegged off of the legit UK release. Please do not buy from him.

Yeah, I noticed that there are ALL REGION DVD bootleg copies of all the LW&C movies floating around on EBAY... Stay away and just wait for the AnimiEigo releases in late spring/ Summer!

AFAIK, The Region Free PAL is legit, the NTSC one is not (i.e. the e-bay copies are most likely crappy bootlegs.) Please wait for the Animego version, it'll be much better.

What's really distressing is some sellers s used t to i be ller legit, but looks like all they see is $$$. I wish e-Bay would ban them... but all they see is $$$ as well..

I don't beleive Shogun Assassin will be available from Animeigo. SA is a combination of a couple films in the series and is dubbed in English. The Lone Wolf and Cub series as far as I can remember is subbed.

The Shogun Asassin DVD is presented in Tohoscope which is probably the reason for the wide AR. I don't know anything about Tohoscope.

I'm not sure Animeigo will put out Shogun Asassin but in any case make sure you get the legit Shogun Asassin DVD.

Yeah, it is highly doubtful that AnimEigo will release Shogun Assassin,... and seeing as how they own the rights to Lone Wolf and have stalled its DVD for the better part of two years- if they do get the rights to Shogun, it'll be a long wait.

I imported my DVD- it is definitely PAL. Like I said, I'll be offering an extensive review later this week, but the picture quality is okay- it is roughly equivelent to a low level Universe release of an older HK action film.

Oh, and JHosk, the problem you had with it looking "squished" was most likely due to the setting of your player. Mine is uuaslly set on 4:3 Letterbox, but for Shogun I had to set it to 16:9 (even though I dont have a 16:9 tv) and the ratio looked fine (maybe only 2-5% of the picutre was cropped at the sides, but no squished figures. It looked compacted and wrong any other way.

Yeah, shortly after I ordered it- Damn them! If I'd only waited a couple of weeks.

Damn! That's the cheapest I've ever seen that disc. With free shipping it's a steal.
