Christian,
Where did you find Il Gattopardo on DVD? From an Italian DVD source? That's a wonderful movie that will doubtfully show up as region 1 disc.

I got it from DVDland.it - it was cheap, and the cheap shipping from Europe only took 2 1/2 weeks!!! very nice and quick.
The discs themselves are super - great picture (sound is mono and not as restored) but if you are a fan of Visconti - this disc is a must. I agree that this is a looooong shot for R1 - so snap it up - it's definitely a super looking restored transfer.
