Abstrakt

The DVD of La Caduta degli dei ("The Damned") is another botched release from l'Istituto Luce. The disc is presented in full frame (open-matte 1.33:1) while the original aspect ratio should be widescreen 1.66:1, the typical European ratio for films shot flat. Furthermore, the version found on this disc is the shortened "international cut" instead of the original theatrical cut.

I'd stay away from this one and hope for a better release -- unless you don't care about preserving the filmmaker's original intent...

I've got "Salo", "The Decameron", "Arabian Nights" & "The Canterbury Tales" on DVD (UK R2 releases). They're quite nice, but pretty basic - not much in the way of extras other than some on-screen text, really. Classy packaging, though, and good purchases for anyone interested in Pasolini.
