Vidocq, Delicatessen R2 DVDs
According to Dark Horizons, the "Vidocq" special edition ("edition prestige") 2-DVD set for R2 was recently announced and will be released March 20th:
http://www.amazon.fr/exec/obidos/tg/...494519-8343456 From what I can tell, the film at least has English subtitles, though I've got no idea about the commentary or extras (I'm guessing those are French only). Still, considering that I'm not sure if the film has been picked up for release Stateside or not, this might be the only way to see it. Also, the R2 Project is reporting that "Delicatessen" will be released in the UK on April 19th. -- Chris |
Vidocq as a film is reasonable, and quite a good murder mystery. Art direction is fantastic, though the 'special effects' that has been touted so much are quite ordinary.
Anyone has any ideas where to find complete specs of this title? DVDFr has not yet updated its database... |
Any chance we'll see a R1 'Delicatessen' anytime in the foreseeable future??
|
Considering that "City of Lost Children" is already available in R1 (well, and "Alien Resurrection"), my guess is that "Delicatessen" will be released in R1 to coincide with the release of "Amelie" on DVD over here, capitalizing on the later's success.

Who own the rights to "Delicatessen"? The same company that has the rights to "Amelie"?

there's a box set available in Z2 containing "Delicatessen" & "the city of lost children" and another title called "le bunker de la derniere rafale"
the catch is... it's only in French, no english ST for those who speaks french http://www.amazon.fr/exec/obidos/tg/...787551-5703338 |
Now, why wasn't Vidocq picked up in the U.S.? They were asking for too much money? Or simply not suitable?
|
Now that it has been released for a while, has anyone here purchased the R2 version of Vidocq? Does the special features have English subtitles, or just the main feature?
|
Delicatessen will be released in Germany on April 19th 2002 by Kinowelt. It has german, italian, french ans spanish dubbing and optional english, german, italian, spanish, dutch and portugese subtitles. You can get it eg. @ amazon.de

Beson's World (UK) has it for $22.81 shipped.
To quote their website: DVD postage is FREE, wherever you are in the world! http://images-eu.amazon.com/images/P...34BZ.02.LZZZZZ |

...ahh... according to the dvdfr site, the two-DVDs-in-a-DigiPak French release features an anamorphic 1.85:1 transfer, dts soundtrack, and optional English subtitles (at least for the feature - don't know about the extras)...

Just got my copy of Deli from Bensonsworld & I have to say that it is very good!
I was a BIT confused w/the menus ( I could'nt see what the different features were too well) & that the director's commentary is in french is a slight ding. |
I finally had the chance to sit down and watch the French Vidocq DVD. Yes the movie has subtitles and I actually loved it. If you don't expect a phenomenal story (though it's certainly interesting enough) what you get is a absolutely beautiful action/thriller.
Unfortunately the extras are not subtitled but at least the movie itself is anamorphic widescreen with subs. Definitely recommended. Next I have to sit down and watch the UK Amelie and my Delicatessen should arrive today. |
