Hello Chaos666,
Welcome to the forum. I also have this disc. Fortunately (or unfortunately),
this disc was recently released in Region 1 as a Special Edition and (99% sure)
contains the same Australian track as the Japanese region 2 release.
Please don't be discouraged. Your future contributions are welcomed and
appreciated.

Hello
I'm new to this forum. I didn't even know it was here.
I just bought a region free player because I heard from friends about ALL that I was missing and after looking through this thread I'm beginning to panic.
There really didn't seem to be many titles at all that I even knew.
I found:
Jackie Brown
Jack and Sarah (not w/s in region 1)
The Last Seduction
and
Wish You Were Here
I didn't really see nearly the kind of titles I expected. Also, Amazon UK didn't have much info at all. None of the above titles were even listed as widescreen there and no extras info either. Well, they had Jack & Sarah at 1:66:1. Isn't that practically full-screen anyway?
Can or would anyone here help me out? Did I just waste $300 on a Malata DVD player or am I missing something? I don't want tons of DVDs from other region because I won't be able to watch them all on both of my players because the one I already have isn't region free. Still, I thought I'd easily find 10-20 titles.
Also, how do you keep up with new releases outside of region 1 and could someone suggest a few e-tailers that have good reputations and maybe more detail than the amazon.uk site?
Any help would be much appreciated.
thanks.

Maybe you're looking for DVDs that have more extras than the R1 releases...? This list is only for movies that are non-existent in their original aspect ratio (or soundtrack) on DVD in the US. But there are a few very good region comparison sites out there.
Check these out:
Rewind
R4 vs. R1
Bytes and Bobs
And as for keeping up with new releases, there are quite a few. There's a lot of sites listed in the non-US e-tailers thread (link in first post). My favorite is R2/UK's DVD Reviewer. But I mostly rely on the members of this forum for new release news.
And I find that DVD Street is pretty good at having accurate details for R2/UK DVDs. I'm not sure about other regions and countries. It's always best to ask here, anyway, because you might find someone who knows the details of a DVD first-hand.
If you still don't find what you're looking for, how 'bout you give me your Malata?

Anyway, if it makes you feel better, I've cancelled my Malata order. There is no reason to spend $300 on a 2nd dvd player for a few titles. I know I'd like to have more of the Buffy set, but I already have the US season 1 and I don't want to have mixed sets and even that just wouldn't be enough to get the player.
I was hoping for more. Thanks for the VERY great and imforative thread, though.

Fantomas is exceptionally good and the quality of the picture is amazing given that the film was made in 1913.

Von Trier's Europa is available in letterboxed format with eng subs from Spain. The picture was decent enough after I changed from progressive to interlaced. The color sequences seemed a little blah, but I had not seen the film prior to this, so I'm not sure how it normally looks. Also the when you use the eng subs they are on even when people are speaking English.

Many Godard films available in R2 Japan (none with English subtitles):
Band of Outsiders (Bande a part)
Helas pour moi
Histoire(s) du cinema
La Chinoise
Made in USA
Masculin-Feminin
Two or Three Things I Know About Her (Deux ou trois choses que je sais d'elle)
Wind from the East (Le Vent d'Est)
A few Greenaway:
The Belly of an Architect/Drowning by Numbers (available only in a three-pack with A Zed and Two Noughts)
A short films disc (Peter Greenaway with Michael Nyman) containing Making a Splash, 26 Bathrooms, and Fear of Drowning)
......and Jarman's Edward II.
Note that the Greenaway and Jarman titles have below-the-waist nudity that will most likely be censored (although I can't confirm it).
