Don't Look Now - French DVD?

Does anybody out there know where to purchase the French
DVD of Don't Look Now and if so is it possible to play in the original language without the French subtitles? This is a favourite movie of mine and I long to see it in pristine format. Has anyone seen the French version and if so what is their verdict? :)

As this deals this a Region 2 release... Moving to the International DVD & Movie forum.

The subtitles are removable. I don't know about the quality, but it is anamorphic widescreen and from Studio Canal , a company that has done some nice disks.

I'm in the uk so I dont know the best companies for shipping to the US. I use Amazon.fr or Cinestore.com (though their shipping is expensive even to the uk).

ON EDIT: Oops! I assumed you were in the USA (like the majority on this board) and it turns out you're in Yorkshire! So, the companies I mentioned might be best - Amazon being cheaper at shipping a single disk, I would think.

Try using www.dvdzone2.com, they are the cheaper than amazon.fr. BTW the Disc looks fantastic. The transfer is really top notch!!

bhomatude, do you know this for a fact?

Any more info on that release? Will it have a new audio track?

To those who have the French release - does it have just one MONO track or what does it feature audio-wise?

Thank you,

Sebastian. :)

...this was no big-budget, big-star Hollywood extravaganza, but a British low-key, low-budget film originally released in 1973 - so, yes, the sound was mono - and the French and German DVDs both have mono soundtracks, as they should...

...a pox on pseudo DD 5.1 'silk purses' made out of perfectly serviceable analog mono 'sow's ears' I say!...

(just MNSHO, of course!)

(...of course, Citizen Kane would have been sooo much better if only WB had seen fit to remix that movie's original soundtrack to dts ES 6.1...)

. . . :o . . .

Thanks for letting me know - the MONO track on the German DVD is not really that good - you have to admit that.

I am not someone who needs a DTS track from a Fritz Lang film, but I do want some good quality sound.

Thanks,

Sebastian. :)

Only 3rd hand info - but according to this thread it is coming along with Polanski's The Tenant in May. But that is all I know (but wait, maybe I saw something mentioned on digital bits once).
