Region 2 DVDs in a Region 1 Player

Hi!
I 've brought some DVDs from Europe (Region 2) back qith me to the US thinking that since it's just a CD it would work, just like music CD's. I was wrong and They won't play in my Region 1 Player. What can I do (IF I can do anything at all in the first place) to see my R-2 movies in my R-1 Player?

Thanks in advance.

PS: my Player is Toshiba

You'll have to modify your player in order to get it to play R2 DVDs. If you post your specific player model, someone might be able to link you to a mod for it. Region coding is one of the features on DVD that movie studios specificly asked for so they could f**k over the consumer.

...ahh... umm... the phrase 'look before you leap' comes to mind... uh, first of all: a DVD (Digital Versatile Disc) is not, repeat not a CD (Compact Disc)... you cannot play CD-ROM's in your CD player, can you?!... However... if you have a DVD-ROM player in your computer or laptop, you should be able to download a program that lets it 'read' DVDs (from whatever Region, and regardless of whether they are PAL- or NTSC-encoded)...

...I think...

. . . ;) . . .

...Melee-Mewtwo: ...oh, and European Region 2 DVDs(*) are all encoded PAL, which, as we all know, is incompatible with American TVs, which are, generally, NTSC, unlike most European PAL TVs built in the past, say eight or ten years, which can handle NTSC input...

(*)...not to be confused with Japanese Region 2 DVDs, which are encoded NTSC, but which, since they are also encoded Region 2, still cannot be played on (American) Region 1 DVD players...

Oh! I just love DVD!

. . . :D . . .

There appears to be an almost identical thread going on elsewhere: <A HREF="http://www.dvdtalk.com/forum/showthread.php?s=&threadid=165551" target="_blank">link</a>
