I saw this film. yep she is hot in that film. 5/10 sounds about right, but I'd probably give it 6.6/10, i liked the candle scene towards the end of the movie

Ok - the real review...

Bakery Amour is another romantic comedy starring Michelle Reis and Francis Ng. Francis Ng is the oldest in a large family and is quite strange. He longs to be a private detective. He happens upon a stack of love letters when he moves into a new flat. He soon discovers that the letters were intended for Michelle Reis and that she never recieved them. Upon reading them he discovers that her boyfriend who is living in France has been sending them (99 letters) over the past year and hasn't heard a single reply. His final letters mention that he's giving up on sending letters and that he figures her love for him has faded away. He decides to buy the bakery that they both had worked in before and offer her a job there in hopes that he can reunite the two lovers. In the process he falls in love with her. blah blah... it's quite silly and Frances is just a creepy freak.

Did I mention that Michelle Reis is hot?

It's quite a standard romance film and nothing really all that remarkable about it outside of the quirkiness of some of the characters. There are a few funny moments, but it's mostly just a movie to watch with your girlfriend/boyfriend. There are better romantic comedies out there, but this one is no slouch.

The acting was decent despite the story being kinda wierd. The cinematography was appropriate - nothing special. The sound was DD 5.1 and made some use of the surrounds - but most of it was dialogue from center channel and cheesey music coming from the sides. The print on the Universe DVD was a tad hazy (as most Universe films are) and lacked the deep saturation that most US releases have. It wasn't particularly grainy though and the transfer in general was very nice - which should be expected of such a recent film. I didn't get into the supplements, but I believe there's a couple of trailers and not too much else. The subtitles were as usual clean and easy to read and only a few grammar and spelling errors. Nothing out of the ordinary... basically this is just an ordinary film and an ordinary DVD. The title peaked my curiosity and now that I've seen it I probably don't have to see it again except to watch Michelle Reis be hot.

Again - I give the film a 5/10 and I'd say it's a rental - not the worst way to spend a few hours though.

I don't recall a candle scene - which scene are you talking about?

at the end of the movie, they go into a church or something with about a few thousand or so candles lit, pretty impressive.

I have a review in the Asian DVD Guide when the DVD first came out. I just wanted to add that the DVD picture is remarkably grainy and average considering that the DVD came out 6 weeks after the movie first was released, which was Valentine's Day this year. But I really enjoyed the movie.

Question: at the risk of exposing my lack of knowledge of the music scene: the theme song of the movie and one of the trailers in the movie is a beautiful English song that is sung by a singer named Tess. Who is she? Is she someone popular I'm supposed to know.

I have no idea who performed the music that was sung in english - I was referring to the music that sounded like it was performed on a $60 casio keyboard synthesizer from Best Buy. I still don't remember the candle scene - I'll have to watch it again. It must've been a fleeting moment and perhaps I looked away. Also - I didn't feel the film was all that grainy - more cloudy than grainy... it just looked like there was a haze over it.

the candle scene is there, at least in the vcd (that's what I watched it on), it'll be a shame if they took it out in the dvd version,.

Michelle Reis

Yeah, Michelle is really hot. Can anyone recommend some of her recent movies that she looks good in? Say, if I just wanted to look at Michelle, which movies would you recommend. Thanks in advance.

The best view (for me anyway) is in my work office where I have a giant poster of hers. The room has a HK movie theme to it (at least that's how I explain it to the wife) with posters of Michelle Reis, Athena Chu, Maggie Cheung, Anita Yuen, Wu Chien-Lien, Gigi Lai and Christy Chung. Oh and a picture of Bruce Lee somewhere in there as well to make the theme 'legit'.

I like her in just about every movie, but try Prince Charming, Y&D 4, and Healing Hearts, which are her later ones.

Hey - thanks for the spoiler - I haven't watched that yet...

When I do watch it and if I do a review - I'll mention the candles.
