Salo PAL Region 2 $29.99

There have been many postings about the price this is fetching on ebay for the Criterion version. For those looking for this film for curiosity purposes, this film is being offered at

http://www.diabolikdvd.com

Keep in mind you will need a region free/PAL compatible player to watch this. But look at it this way, you could buy a region free player, this dvd, and a truckload of popcorn for the price you'd pay for the Criterion disc.

And it also doesn't feature the heightened sense of self that comes with the CC...

I've heard the transfer on the R2 is worse than Criterion's, if that is possible.

It's also available at dozens of UK sites including but not limited to amazon.co.uk. It's also typically much cheaper than at diabolik - waaaaay overpriced IMHO.

"I've heard the transfer on the R2 is worse than Criterion's, if that is possible."

...unfortunately, and to the eternal shame of the grandly-named bfi (British Film Institute, no less!), yes! it is indeed possible... while admittedly the CC disc is nothing to write home about, the UK disc is considerably worse - and just as barebones... I know, I own both...

...take it from me: 't ain't worth it! (I mean the DVDs, the movie itself is another matter altogether)...

. . . . . .

There are RUMORS that MGM are putting together new film elements to this.

Will they actually release this? I have my doubts.
