Crimson Rivers - Here are the US features (Good!)
Here are the features on the US Columbia Tristar release of Crimson Rivers starring Jean Reno and Vincent Cassel. It's a Seven-type mystery thrilller with really great cinematography and loads of atmosphere (takes place in a mountain university). There's even a kung fu scene!
Anyway, I'm very happy that they're including a director & cast commentary given the foreign language origins of the film. Excellent.. I hope both Reno & Cassel are on the track.

SCREW YOU, COLUMBIA!
This was on my must-have-list. Not including the original language in the best available form is simply not acceptable! Without a French 5.1 track this is of no interest to me!

they should definitely swap the English DD5.1 track for a French DD5.1 track. I'm not going to not-buy though since I can't get it in any other region with french DD5.1 and english subs.....

I can't say it really surprises me the Columbia decided to do it this way Also, if you really want to be picky about it the IMDB page mentions DTS Does anyone know if Jean does his own dub though?

I just wanted to confirm that the French track on this disc is indeed a DD5.1 track, and not a DD2.0 one. not to mention it's a great movie. two thumbs up
edit: Jean Reno does do his own dub, but I didn't listen to it long enough to determine how good/bad it is.

I hope not.
To get an R for BROTHER, in addition to numerous cuts, blood splatter was digitally removed from numerous scene. They just CGI'd it out of the frame.

Thanks for the explanation. It's just ridiculous, though-- reminds me of when the ultra-violent Fist of the North Star animation came out, and they were digitally blurring the scenes of baddies' heads exploding.
To get back on Crimson River(s?), I saw it when I was still in Japan, and the cut I saw didn't have any digital hocus-pocus that I could tell... there wasn't even anything that gruesome, as I recall.

I've also heard the US dubbed version, and it's atrocious. It makes the film completely unwatchable, IMO, especially since Reno and the other casts' English was so bad. Sorry, but having the original actors doing the English dub is just a stupid idea, since all it does is make the dialogue incomprehensible due to the thick, thick accents.
Go watch Kiyoshi Kurosawa's "Cure" instead. It's a much better film.
