Universal Playback have announced Volume 2 of their Classic TV range on DVD. Released on October 1st and priced at just S12.99 will be:

  • "Knightrider" Contains three episodes

  • "Airwolf" Contains three episodes

  • "The Incredible Hulk"

  • "The A Team" Three episodes from the 1985 season

  • "The Six Million Dollar Man"

  • "The Bionic Woman"

  • "Miami Vice"

  • "Columbo"

  • "Kojack"

Also announced for October 1st "Moonlighting" volume 1 at the same price.

There also seems to be some confusion over the release of series 1 of "Xena". The Pr States that the release date is October 1st and that the complete season 1 will be available on that date. We've talked to Playback and in fact the release date is September 17th and it is the first half of the season only. The second half of series one will be available in November we believe.

Funny, those are EXACTLY the two shows that I searched for when they released the first wave. I picked up the Knight Rider and Six Million Dollar Man DVDs, but what I really want is the first season of Battlestar and the pilot movie for Buck Rogers.

So how are they? I know we're talking old TV shows, but are the transfers decent?

I posted a (brief) review of Knight Rider Vol. 1 when it first came out, but I can't seem to find it... may have gotten purged from DVDTalk by now.

Anyway, I compared it directly to the Columbia House VHS tape of the same pilot episode. It seemed like they used the exact same source material to master the DVD -- whenever there was a blemish on the VHS tape (a scratch or brief white speckle), the same blemish was on the DVD.

Overall, they were decent quality... but don't expect any digital miracles. They haven't really been cleaned up or remastered for DVD. They are a bit sharper with more stable colors than the VHS tapes (naturally), but there is very little difference.

Still, they're cheap and it's great to have the "Bigfoot" episode of Six Million on DVD. I would definitely recommend any that interest you, just don't expect to be blown away by the picture or sound.

</small>There are some search engine "issues" that have been - and continue to be - discussed in the Feedback Forum.

That said, I think that your elusive mini-review may still be around: Link.

NB) There some radio button options on the left hand side of the screen below the dropdown menu headed "Search All Open Forums". One has to remember to make sure that the "search entire posts" option is selected.

Oh, don't worry, I remember watching them on prime time as well. It's just that when the all 80's radio station started in Houston, I really started to feel old.
