HK Romance Films... recommendations

I have plenty of action and comedy movies. I was interested in getting an HK romance movie. A little bit of comedy mixed in would be okay, but I'd like it to fall more on the romance side (I already have King of Comedy, awesome btw, which leans toward the comic side of things). So, I'm looking for recommendations.

Right now, I'm leaning toward "Fly Me to Polaris" because I really like Cecilia Cheung and the premise sounded interesting. Plus, I was fairly impressed with the visual style of Jingle Ma's "Tokyo Raiders". While I know this one will be more subtle than that, I hear it does definitely have visual impact. So, if anyone has any opinions on that particular movie, too, it would be helpful. But, I welcome any good recommendations.

I haven't seen very many, but I absolutely LOVE "Comrades, Almost a Love Story" starring Maggie Cheung & Leon Lai...(& I was disappointed by King of Comedy).

I recommend Comrades, as well. Probably the only romance movie in my collection (HK).

Needing You was really good, as well.

It's an older film (1987, I think?), but Dream Lovers, with Chow Yun Fat and Brigitte Lin, is a great film.

Romance, Hong Kong style

I haven't seen it in a while but Hong Kong 1941 could be called romance, I think.

Rouge

In a broader vein, Bride with White Hair

Weird, I just watched this yesterday (well sort of in and out while someone was watching it). This was a good movie and I believe Sammi Cheng was in it. More of a "pop" romance but it did make me sit down for the last half of the movie!

I liked the various CYF romances, most of them romance comedies. Then again, I tend to like everything CYF does.

Fractured Follies
Spiritual Love
Greatest LoverDiary of a Big Man
The Fun, the Luck and the Tycoon

Also, I like Cecilia Cheung romance films
Everyday is Valentine
Fly Me to Polaris
Wu Yen (sort of)
12 Nights

I'll also add to the list:

Anna Magdalena
Cest Le Vie, Mon Cherie
A Moment of Romance
Mermaid Got Married (a bit lighter, but still recommended)
In the Mood for Love

It's more on the silly side, but we love Diary of a Big Man. Chow with Joey and Sallie.

Treasure Hunt is also a really good one.

some of the suggestions that have been made vary quite widely, from good movies to not so good movies, from pure comedies to really good romantic movies.

The two best pure romantic HK movies are An Autumn's Tale and C'est La Vie Mon Cherie. Comrades, Almost A Love Story is somewhat more of a drama but certainly one can call it a romance movie. A Chinese Ghost Story is a great movie, of the supernatural genre but certainly an argument can be made for a romance movie. Needing You is a super romantic comedy film. Fly Me To Polaris is the ultimate tearjerker - it did bring a tear or two to my eye. A Moment of Romance is the ultimate 'heroic bloodshed' romance movie. I'd start with these.

Two of my romance favorites "City of Glass" and "Comrades, Almost a Love Story." Both have wonderful soundtrack.

Wong Kar Wai's, of course. Chungking Express is my favourite, but try even Happy Together, Fallen Angels, In the Mood for Love. I have'nt seen yet As Tears go by and Days of being wild, but I suspect they are beautiful too, I'm going to order them soon.

Is the Deltamac verion of "Fly Me to Polaris" the only one currently available? What is the aspect ratio of the DVD? Any comments on the quality of the DVD?

I'm sure there is plenty of info on this DVD in the Asian DVD Guide, but picturewise it is one of the best HK movies out there if not the best. For the most part Deltamac DVDs are excellent.

I just watched Golden Girls last night, starring Lau Ching Wan, and I think that would qualify as a romantic comedy.

Thanks for the recommendations. I have tried a couple of the ones mentioned. Many of the others mentioned sound intriguing also.

I will probably start with Fly Me To Polaris, as I was leaning toward that originally and a couple people gave it a recommendation. But, I plan to keep a number of these films in mind for future purchases also (particularly, Comrades: Almost a Love Story which sounds quite good).
