any Kiarostami (or other Iranian) dvd's available?

Other than the Criterion Taste of Cherry are there any other DVD's available? I keep seeing most of his movies on VCD on ebay and eventually I am going to have to just break down and buy those I guess.

Help please!

No, Taste of Cherry seems to be the only thing available on DVD. The only options other than the Asian VCDs are some nice NTSC VHS tapes from Canada and some PAL tapes out of Europe. The Wind Will Carry Us came out recently in the UK.

It boggles the mind how many wonderful directors are being neglected on DVD.

(*ahem*... Robert Bresson)

What about other Iranian/middle eastern directors? I recently watched the Color of Paradise and got the same wonderful vibe from this movie as I did from the two or three Kiarostami movies that I have seen.

Of Kiarostami's films, I'd like to see WHERE IS MY FRIEND'S HOUSE? (1987), CLOSE-UP (1989), and particularly the wonderful AND LIFE GOES ON (1992) released on DVD.
Also among Iranian films, THE PEDDLER (1987) by Moshen Makhmalbaf is worth seeing, as is THE APPLE (1998), by Makhmalbaf's daughter Samira.

Japan released a DVD box set of quite a few Kiarostami films. Unfortunately, there are no English subtitles.

I thought that this was worth asking again. Anything yet? How about other Iranian directors? I have not seen very many Iranian films but those that I have seen were truly magical (Color of Paradise and a couple of Kiarostami films).

The Color of Paradise *is* available on R1 DVD, courtesy of Columbia/Tristar. Then there's Dariush Mehrjui's Leila on R1 DVD.
No cluye on their respective quality.

In Hong Kong, I saw VCDs of several films available, like Children of Heaven by Maji Majidi, The Wind Will Carry Us and Where Is the Friend's Home? by Kiarostami, and some others I don't immediately recall.

I highly recommend Dariush Mehrjui's "Leila" from First Run Features. I think it was recently reduced in price as well.

It's letterboxed slightly, in Farsi with subtitles and has lots of white speckles and dirt in the print. But I would still get it. It's nice to see an adult Irainian film that isn't about kids loosing their shoes or balloons for a change (not that I didn't like some of them as well).

I've seen a number of Mehrjui's films and wish that somebody, somwhere, would release "The Lady" - a hilarious and ultimatley bitter protest against social classes in Iran.

Also, I forgot, if you're really desperate for some Kiarostami on Region 1 DVD you can pick up Lumière & Company. He contributes a one minute short film along within 39 other world cinema directors.
