Anchor Bay's new "Evil Dead" DVD (UK) reviewed
 

I just read a review of the disc at DVD Debate... It looks like Anchor Bay UK has put out a 1.85:1 release of the film on DVD, as was rumored on the web earlier a few months back. Still, there are no extras to speak, although it seems they have gotten the commentary tracks from Elite! The reviewer also says the transfer leaves a lot to be desired.

Still, this is interesting news and since this release is not THX certified, it might very well be that the future R1 release will be vastly superior...

Sounds crappy the way they talk about it. 6.1 DTS they say did not do justice. Hmm..

Also, isn't the OAR of Evil Dead 1:33.1 and not 1:85.1?

Neither. It's 1.66:1. :)

Yes, it was originally 1.66:1, but Raimi wanted to reframe it to 1.85:1 at some point.
