Ive been comparing some run times of region 1 movies and they are consistantly longer than those of the region 4 discs. (WHich i am able to buy as an aussie). Examples are
Charlies Angels X Men Titan AE Gladiator Soures have been http://www.amazon.com, http://www.express.com, http://www.ezydvd.com.au Anyone know if scenes are being left on the floor for region 4 or is this just lazy quoting? Any help much appreciated. Cheers Poddy |
...ahh... Region 4 is PAL... this means that all R4 DVDs that contain a movie 'run' a wee bit 'faster' than, say, a Region 1 DVD, which is NTSC (as is Region 2/Japan)... the difference is approx. 4%... this means that -all other things being equal- a movie on a R1 DVD that runs 100 minutes, will be over in 96 minutes on a R4 (or a R2/Europe) DVD... the reason for that is that movies, which run at 24fps (frames-per-second) in movie theaters in Sydney, Johannesburg, Chicago, Hong Kong, Paris, Buenos Aires or Moscow, are shown on PAL TV at a speed of 25fps... yes... I wouldn't worry about it...
