You can use these online. I found out how a while ago.
Don't be logged in. Checkout as a guest. During checkout put your MyBBY member ID and from the mystery certificate use the certificate number. It should then apply the 20% GCU (if applicable) off, let you use the mystery certificate, any other certificates you might have (need to manually add them like the mystery cert). You should also earn points for the purchase since you put your member ID in during the checkout process.
They don't want you doing this as to make you go into the store. That is why these exist, to try to get you into the store to buy more then you plan on. So these work online if you work around the "mystery" part.

Every time I read about a promotion like this, I seem to be excluded from it.
No e-mail that I can see. Appreciate the heads up, though.

I've spent about $1600 with Best Buy in the past year since I get most of my media from them. Did not get the email. Perhaps this going to people who have a Best Buy credit account? I don't.

Thanks for this topic. I would have missed my email if I hadn't seen this.

No rhyme or reason as who gets it as far as I can tell. My brother and I both received one. I spent $1500+ last year but not nearly as much so far this year. Not sure about my brothers shopping habits. Haven't heard from my sister, but I know she recently received a free $5 cert. a couple of weeks ago and she rarely shops there.

Thanks for the online use tip, EinCB! I got one - worth the expected $5 so I redeemed it for the 40th Anniversary BR of Monty Python and the Holy Grail - a looooong time favorite (I own several DVD copies already but none on BR). It's nice they just started doing free shipping on any size order as it wasn't available in store.
I *rarely* purchase from BB. Usually just when I get one of these coupons or the similar "We miss you so here's $5 to spend in the store/online" variety. I'd received one of *those* a couple of weeks ago and purchased a copy of the new 3D edition of It Came from Outer Space using it.

If your reward certificate ends in 86500, it's a $5 one.
I'd use mine online if I could since there isn't jack shit in the stores these days. The blu-ray shelves are barren, what they do in have in stock is either crap I don't want or priced so high that I could get it cheaper elsewhere even with the $5 off.

I got the e-mail. Woo Hoo $5!!!
Maybe I'll use to for something more productive like ink for my new printer.
It expires Saturday and there's nothing that I really need BD-wise.

Re: Best Buy mystery reward valued from $5 to $5,000
I got a $5 one, I would have considered using it towards the 2 for $10 BDs but I couldn't find them in-store. I ended up getting a $10 Nintendo Points card, and I had another $5 certificate from rewards so I walked out paying nothing out of pocket.

I don't have a credit account (basic rewards member) and I've only purchased maybe 4 or 5 videos in the last year from Best Buy, got the email anyway. Going to check it out on my day off tomorrow, it'll probably only be $5, I never get that lucky (lucky enough to get the email apparently, not lucky enough for it to amount to anything substantial).

Re: Best Buy mystery reward valued from $5 to $5,000
If it is true about the serial numbers, looks like I got $5. Was hoping for more. I did get a random $20 certificate from them last week for using their CC and spending $20 outside of BB, so that was an unexpected surprise.

Re: Best Buy mystery reward valued from $5 to $5,000
Checked my email just now and I got the email! Only $5.00 but hey its better than not getting the email.
Too bad I didn't get the email at this time yesterday as I passed the local Best Buy in my travels yesterday afternoon.
Probably for the better that wasn't the case as based on the stories of others here, my store would be like their store.
They won't have anything good in-store - DVD-Blu-Ray - to purchase anyway.
(Last time I was in my Best Buy it was almost two years ago - it seemed they had a good DVD-Blu-Ray set up still. Don't know if thats the case now.)
Won't be able to get to my local Best Buy by Saturday to use it there so I'll have it use it online.

Mine was in fact worth $5, picked up the Star Trek Beyond Steelbook for $14.99. Could've been worse, I might not have even gotten the email.
All in all, not as exciting as I'd hoped it would be.

Used mine online using the checkout as a guest trick.
With the free shipping I a decent deal on a sale item.

Re: Best Buy mystery reward valued from $5 to $5,000
Is there a way to look for one of these rewards without tracking down the email? Link?
Not able to find this within my deleted Best Buy emails. If they didn't send me so many things I automatically delete, I might be better about catching those that actually are worthy of reading.

These coupons expired on November 5th.
When I went to look for it in my email, I just used the search engine and typed in "$5,000" or something similar.
