I would say give them the movie money first and then pay the balance with the MoviePass.

Make sure you're seeing something that costs more than a regular ticket (3D, IMAX, etc.) though, because otherwise its kind of a waste of the movie money.

Re: MoviePass Beta Invite (Unlimited Movies in Theater)

Just sent the following email regarding the exciting new "Countdown Clock" feature:

Hello,

I had a question about the "Countdown Clock" feature. It says that we are
still able to see a movie every day, but is this possible unless you see a
movie the same exact time each day, given that we are now limited to a
movie every 24 hours? Since it's basically impossible to see a movie the
same time every day, this means we are limited to fewer screenings now,
right?

For example, if I watch a movie on Monday at 11:00 p.m., then I cannot go
on Tuesday if there are no screenings at 11:00 p.m. or afterwards, correct?

Please let me know if I'm missing something here, because it's
disconcerting this was marketed as an exciting new feature, when in
reality, it limits the service for customers. This is not what I signed up
for and was marketed to me when purchasing MoviePass.

Yeah I like how the email said "New features" and it's something that limits what you can do. Morons.

Re: MoviePass Beta Invite (Unlimited Movies in Theater)

I'm seeing a movie Sunday night, then I have off Monday so I like to go to a matinee on days off. I am wondering if the card can only be activated every 24 hours, or if there may be a work around where I will just check into a later showing Monday but see the matinee.

Re: MoviePass Beta Invite (Unlimited Movies in Theater)

I emailed them too. If it resets overnight or something, that one's thing, but every 24 hours is not the same as once a day.
I will very often see a late movie Fri and a matinee Sat or late Sat/mat Sun and this would negate that. My contract just went off so if it severely limits my usage, the times I'm able to use it, I will cancel.
I guess check in for a later movie might work, but eventually, if it's truly 24 hours, you'll have to skip a day anyway.

Re: MoviePass Beta Invite (Unlimited Movies in Theater)

OK .. I am really not liking this 24-hour crap. And it looks like even if you check in to a later movie earlier in the day, the timer doesn't start until the movie does.

I called the number on the email and they said that they researched this change - I asked how, but they said that it wouldn't really affect me based on my account history. Still, I voiced my displeasure (since I work a 4-day work week and like to see a new release on Thursday night and then see one on my off day Friday). The agent told me that since this is a term change I have 14 days to cancel my membership. I still might

Re: MoviePass Beta Invite (Unlimited Movies in Theater)

when was the email sent out? I never saw one.

interesting facebook comment:

"I just talked to someone in customer disservice and the guy told me "we can change the terms of service any time we want without any notice" which is what they did. Unfortunately for them, this is a contract that they are now in breach."

they may have the upper hand, but can't this attitude and implementation have a blacklash of legal ramifications.

Re: MoviePass Beta Invite (Unlimited Movies in Theater)

Well this having to plan out the movies to maximize my usage sucks. Before the 24hr clock I was on track to see about one a day. I had 8 days out of 9 I saw a movie. Actually the only reason I didn't check in the other day was I was seeing the IMAX Gravity. Last Friday I had to reset and this Friday 11/8 it probably makes sense to have this be my reset day again.

Re: MoviePass Beta Invite (Unlimited Movies in Theater)

And they haven't changed their website - the splash page still says
Unlimited movies
No blackout dates
And there's now a 25$ "membership initiation fee".
Wow, and 5 bucks shipping for the card.

I did get a response back from them, saying substantially the same things.
"there will need to be a 24 hour waiting period between each screening."
"the majority of our users do not use the service twice in a 24 hour period, and this was a decision we have had to make as a business still hoping to grow while also providing the same level of service"

I'll sub until I can't see a movie when I want to, then cancel.

Re: MoviePass Beta Invite (Unlimited Movies in Theater)

While I absolutely hate the new 24 hour clock, I'm finding the MoviePass to be quite worthwhile still. I am lucky enough to be one of the initial beta members at $24.99 and that has held over past the initial 1 year contract. If i were paying $34.99 I might think otherwise.

I just called them when I cancelled. Once they picked up, they just asked why, and if I'd be interested in returning someday. Took about 2 minutes. I cancelled about a week before my next payment was due.

Cancelled. Got my money's worth, though. The local theater has 2D movies for $6 before 4p and I work nights so that works for me, I'd have to see 5 movies a month just to break even every single month.

/\ Damn, I'm surprised you cancelled. You were hitting the MoviePass pretty hard a few months back.

Re: MoviePass Beta Invite (Unlimited Movies in Theater)

I'm still using mine ... the 24-hour thing still is a bit of a pain, but there are enough movies that I don't care to see that I am able to plan it out well enough.

That said, I do wish that they would get the IMAX/3D option going ...

Re: MoviePass Beta Invite (Unlimited Movies in Theater)

Even though I'm still less than impressed with MoviePass as a company, it still makes financial sense for me to keep MoviePass. In NYC the theater tickets cost $14.50 any time of day ($14 occasionally), so I only need to see 3 movies each month to get my money's worth at $34.99. I can still easily do this with the Countdown Clock. The moment is stops making great financial sense to me, I'll cancel.

Same here. I used to frequently watch Friday night, Saturday afternoon, which is not possible anymore with the 24 hour clock. Having to reschedule my weekends because of this limitation is annoying, but not a deal breaker, because I am still coming out on top financially.

Unless they raise prices or add some more restrictive "features", I'll continue to use it.
