Sounds like a good deal, but how is the web browser on that thing? B&N's website says:
"explore the Web using NOOK's basic web browser. You can check email, send a note or do a quick GoogleŽ search" so it doesn't sound like a full web browser that can access any website... Also, can it access the web through the 3G connection, or only through w-fi?

On a stock Nook, web browsing works through WiFi but not 3G. The 3G is designed solely for connectivity to the B&N mothership for downloads, etc. Of course, as an Android platform, there are folks who have figured out how to "root" it.

There are posters on Mobileread.com who have described their browing experience with the current firmware (1.4 or 1.4.1, I forget which). It reportedly works but requires some tweaking. There's a new firrmware update coming in a few weeks, but I do not know what impact that will have.

PS - The deal mentioned in the OP is now dead.

Darn, I wish I had noticed the auction was ending. They do have another auction listed, but it is $119 instead of $99. For $99, I would probably have bought it today as a toy to play with (attempting the hack, of course), but not at $119...

Re: Nook 3G+Wifi Refurb $99 + Free Shipping via B&N's eBay Store

I picked up two. One is an Xmas gift for my mom. I have a Sony eReader (PRS-600 Touch) and plan to check out the Nook to see if I want to use it instead of the Sony. I may end up giving it as a gift to another family member too - don't know yet.

The price was outstanding, but at the time I bought it I admittedly misunderstood the 3G web browsing feature, thinking that it was similar to the Kindle's ability. Without that, the bargain is slightly diminished but still seemed a very good price.

Re: Nook 3G+Wifi Refurb $99 + Free Shipping via B&N's eBay Store

UPDATE:

$99 WiFi-only refurbs are now available at Buy.com:
http://www.buy.com/prod/nook-by-barn...217612846.html

$119 WiFi/3G refurbs (same unit as in the OP) are available on eBay *and* Buy.com:
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...m=290498357616
http://www.buy.com/prod/nook-by-barn...217612847.html

Free shipping on both. The units are identical EXCEPT the $99-version does not include 3G. Since 3G is only used for connectivity to B&N to purchase/download books (at least without being hacked) the additional $20 may not be worth it unless you have no access to WiFi or a local B&N store. But without either, the $20 for 3G is essential. If you want the $119 model, buying from Buy.com might allow you to avoid sales tax... the eBay auction is from Barnes & Noble's eBay store, and since they have B&M stores in just about all 50 states you are almost certainly going to pay tax if buying from them.
