Of course my community college email was brought down for the summer while they migrate and I can't get to it to retrieve the email.

I was tempted, since I'm in grad school for a second masters right now, but this is a little red flag for me. Seems like a great way for Amazon and its partners to get my email address and send me whatever they want. I'm currently a Prime member and don't have to deal with any of that, so maybe the $79 trade-off for no spam is worth it.

Thoughts on that?

Nice. I'm a college employee (and I do take classes, especially since they only cost $0 to $5, so I'm even legit) and got $66 back from my existing membership.

I get so much spam anyway it's not like a bit more is gonna hurt.

In the sign-up process, they specifically say that if your .edu address differs from your normal Amazon e-mail address, that they will only use the .edu address you give them to do the eligibility confirmation, and then nothing else after that.

Well unfortunately I had to cancel my Prime membership already. My first shipments this week went via another shady courier who marked them as delivered even though they weren't. See my post in the Prime thread under the Store Forum for details. I'm not going to deal with that crap again.
