Sony's Webbie ?

Looking to get this for my 10 year old child for $129. Wondering if this a good camcorder for the price or there another one better? I don't know much about camcorders so I'm not sure of the pros and cons to other camcorders. If there is any better and why please enlighten me :)

These flip style video cameras a decent, but depending on which webbie you are looking at they usually don't have a decent/any zoom...That is the dealbreaker for me.

I bought a Panasonic ZS3 Digital camera which is about twice as much as the webbie, but does amazing 720P video, 10+mp camera, AND has a 12X optical zoom.

Thanks and the Webbie we were looking at is the MHS-PM1. I looked at the Flip's but figured the Sony was the same price and figured it was better?

These flash camcorders get discussed every so often in the Tech Forum.

http://forum.dvdtalk.com/tech-talk/5...-opinions.html

I'm a big fan of the Creative VadoHD. Amazon has the latest model for $130 and the last model for $99. I think the only thing they added to the new model is a new glossy color and MAC software. So I'd recommend the last model for $30 less.

I think the reason I didn't like the Sony Webbie is that it captured video at a lower bitrate than the Flip MinoHD and the VadoHD.

Here's some video reviews of the VadoHD and other flash camcorders:

I don't think the last version had the Mac software. It comes with the new $130 VadoHD. Here's part of the sales text from Amazon:

"For Mac users, the new Vado Central™ for OS X lets you transfer and import your videos direct into iMovie."

Re: Sony's Webbie ?

Actually, I just went to the Creative website, and I see that there's a new 3rd Gen of the VadoHD. Looks like it adds a new case design and a microphone/headphone jack.

http://us.store.creative.com/Vado-HD...WT.mc_id=24142

Looking at the Support site for Creative, there's a software update for the 1st Gen VadoHD. Looks like it adds Mac support.

I don't have a Mac, so maybe someone that does can give you better info.
